All eyes in the One Piece Card Game community are usually turning towards the next impending bans and restrictions announcement, with many players interested in the more powerful Character and Leader cards being restricted or even scrapped.
The One Piece OP-08 metagame has just got underway with the release of Two Legends in early September and strong picks like Rob Lucci—fuelled by the infamous eight-cost Gecko Moria Character card—and several Yellow decks have skipped out into the lead to shine bright at competitive and local events. In particular, Purple utility card Black Maria has players now questioning when restrictions could update.
Here’s when Bandai will unveil those long-awaited One Piece bans.
Next One Piece TCG ban list date
Bandai has not yet announced when the next One Piece TCG ban list will be unveiled. The One Piece Card Game publishers have yet to solidify a regular plan around suspensions and restrictions à la Magic: The Gathering‘s oft-run bans.
The last time there were bans in One Piece was on Monday, Aug. 12. At that time, Bandai hit metagame-warping Red/Purple Leader Trafalgar Law with a total ban and benched Stage card Enies Lobby at the same time. This was enacted in the Eastern metagame nearly immediately and came into effect in the West when Two Legends launched.
Before that, the last bans happened when Blue/Black control Leader Sakazuki was hit with the banhammer in March 2023. Between those two suspensions there was nearly six months—this suggests a wait before the next bans.
Which One Piece cards will be banned next?
Bandai has yet to confirm which cards will be restricted or removed from the One Piece card game’s competitive scene, but there are some strong possibilities.
Foremost among the cards One Piece players want to see banned is the eight-cost Gecko Moria card that boasts 9,000 power and resurrects a four-cost and a two-cost from your trash. While it’s bang-on flavor-wise, it’s turned many Black decks into S-Tier contenders and remains a very prevalent pick in Two Legends.
As mentioned, newly released utility card Black Maria is another Character players are interested in seeing shelved. She has 2,000 counter power and all-but refreshes used Don!! through her Activate Main ability. The power was so strong she was basically the reason the Red/Purple Trafalgar Law Leader card didn’t make it to OP-08’s meta play.
Other possible bans and restrictions could land on 10-cost Big Mom, though that’s unlikely after she’s spent so long free, or even Yellow Leader Enel.
