Baldur’s Gate 3: Where to find Mithral Ore in BG3

Tracking down Mithral Ore is challenging, especially given the limited amount you can find during any playthrough.

If you’re looking to craft Adamantine Armor or weapons in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need some Mithral Ore. However, it’s an exceptionally rare resource, and tracking it down can be a challenge because of how scarce it is.

Given this difficulty, you want to be careful about what items you make with the Mithral Ore you do have. You can only use it when crafting at the Adamantine Forge, which you can find in the Underdark before you reach Act Two. Thankfully, in the last section of Act One, you can find all the remaining deposits of Mithral Ore. You want to find down before you leave this area because you won’t be able to find any more later on or use the Adamantine Forge if you don’t have Mithral. Here’s what you need to know about where to get all Mithral Ore in BG3.

Where to find all Mithral Ore locations in BG3

There are two Mithral Ore deposits next to each other in the Ancient Forge region of the Underdark in BG3. Although these are large pieces of rock, both deposits only give you one piece of Mithral Ore each, and that means you can only use them to create, at most, two items at the Adamantine Forge. Still, breaking them apart to get these ore pieces is rough work.

Here’s what you need to do when you want to mine Mithral Ore.

  • Equip a bludgeoning weapon that does high damage, like a club, hammer, mace, quarterstaff, mail, or warhammer.
  • Melee strike the Mithral Ore vein until it no longer has any health.
  • Take the Mithral Ore that drops from the ground and add it to your inventory to bring to the Grymforge.

Unlike other resources in BG3, Mithral Ore is tough to mine because you can’t hit it with just any old weapon or attack. It has the Sturdy effect, which means there’s only one attack that can destroy the vein. Your best bludgeoning weapon is the most effective way to break into heavy rock and grab these precious materials.

After you mine both Mithral Ore deposits, it’s time to bring the ore back to the Adamantine Forge and begin using them to craft items. However, there are other ingredients you need to track down if you want to use the Grymforge in BG3 to make specific items.

Mithral Ore, along with a mould, can be used in the Adamantine Forge at the Grymforge to create fantastic items and item sets known as Adamantine gear. There are six items you can craft at this location, but before you do that, there is a boss you need to beat: the Grym. It’s a hefty boss that has a specific mechanic tied to it that can make it easier to fight, but it’s still a challenging encounter.

After you defeat the Grym, the Adamantine Forge is yours to use as you wish. There are six Adamantine items you can make at this location during your BG3 playthrough:

  • Adamantine Mace
  • Adamantine Longsword
  • Adamantine Scale Mail
  • Adamantine Scimitar
  • Adamantine Shield
  • Adamantine Splint Armour

We recommend creating at least one armor piece, namely the Scale Mail or the Splint Armour, and one weapon, such as the Longsword. However, the choice is entirely up to you. You need to track down the correct mould if you want to use it. If you want to see item stats and where to find moulds for all of the items above, check out our full Adamantine Forge guide here.

Once you’ve created your two items, that’s all the Mithral Ore you can find in BG3. You won’t be able to make another item at the Adamantine Forge unless you start a new playthrough.
