If you’re looking to craft Adamantine Armor or weapons in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need some Mithral Ore. However, there are only two in the Mithral Ore locations in the game. Here’s everything you need to know to find them.
How to mine Mithral Ore in BG3
Unlike other resources in BG3, Mithral Ore is tough to mine because you can’t hit it with just any old weapon or attack. After all, it has the “Sturdy” effect, which means there’s only one attack that can destroy the vein. Once you’ve found a Mithral Ore vein, you can mine it by following these steps:
- Equip a bludgeoning weapon that does high damage, like a club, hammer, mace, quarterstaff, mail, or warhammer.
- Melee strike the Mithral Ore vein until it no longer has any health.
- Take the Mithral Ore
If you don’t have a bludgeoning weapon, purchase one from any merchant like Dammon at the Hollow or even Derryth Bonecloak in the Ebonlake Grotto. Now that you have a high-damage bludgeoning weapon and a high-strength character who can wield it, you can find and mine the two Mirthal Ore veins.
Where to find the first Mithral Ore in BG3
You can find both Mithral Ores in Grymforge within the Underdark. But the first Mithral Ore vein can be found by following this path:
- Travel to the Ancient Forge waypoint and head south.
- You’ll need to climb down a cliff and clear a river of lava.
- Once you’ve made it, you should see a Mithral Vein (X: -558, Y: 273).
- Attack the rock with blue streaks, and it’ll drop a Mithral Ore.
Where to find the second Mithral Ore in BG3
The second Mithral Ore vein is close to the first, and you can find it by following this path:
- Head back to the staircase leading down to the Adamantine Forge.
- Turn left while walking down the staircase
- Clear the gap to reach the Mithral Vein (X: -646, Y: 258).
- A group of enemies will ambush you there, so be prepared to fight.
- Once you finish this fight, attack the Mithral Ore to mine it.
What is Mithral used for in BG3?
Mithral Ore, along with mold, can be used in the Adamantine Forge to create fantastic items and item sets known as Adamantine gear. We went with the Adamantine Scale Mail and Adamantine Longsword, and they’ve made my main character much stronger and more durable.
The golem boss, Grym will have to be defeated before you are able to use the Adamantine Forge. It nullifies every effect accept Bludgeoning attacks once it is superheated by walking through the lava.
All of the items at the forge can be used on the strongest classes to make them even more fun, but what works for one may not work well for another, so be sure to choose wisely. You can trade or barter them once they’ve served their purpose and you don’t plan on using them again. But I kept mine because I didn’t want to waste all my hard work.
Mithral Ore locations, summarized
The primary location for Mithral Ore is the Grymforge within the Underdark. Since Mithral Ore has the “Sturdy” effect, meaning only one attack can destroy the vein, you’ll need to acquire a bludgeoning weapon to break it. From there, you must:
- Equip a strong bludgeoning weapon.
- Strike the Mithral Ore, destroying it.
- Take the Mithral Ore.
So, there you have it—everything you need to know about finding Mithral Ore in BG3.
