A Crystallization Catalyst changes the module socket type of a weapon or Descendant. Inserting a Module of a type matching the socket decreases the capacity cost, allowing you to use more powerful Modules in your build.

Here’s every way you can get Crystallization Catalysts in The First Descendant.

Ways to get Crystallization Catalyst in The First Descendant

Research Crystallization Catalyst at Anais

The first way to get the Crystallization Catalyst is to research it. It takes some time to get certain materials, but it’s possible to get everything you need without paying a cent.

Here are all the materials required to research the Crystallization Catalyst in The First Descendant:

MaterialQuantitySource
Murky Energy Residue8Unknown Laboratory and The Forgottense missions in the Sterile Land
Macromolecule Biogel22Muske Swamp: Vulgus Strategic Outpost and Derelict Cover: Vulgus Strategic Outpost mission monsters in Echo Swamp
Mixed Energy Residue8Encrypted Storage Vaults in Agna Desert
Advanced Neural Circuit18Missions in White-night Gulch
Crystallization Catalyst Blueprint1Amorphous Materials and Void Fusion Reactor missions

The resources are fairly straightforward to get. For the full list of sources that drop Advanced Neural Circuit and Crystallization Catalyst Blueprint, I recommend heading to Anais in Albion and opening the crafting recipe, as she can point you directly to the mission in question.

After collecting all the materials, head back to Albion and start the research. The process takes seven and a half hours, so you can leave it overnight or spend some Caliber to get it done instantly.

Complete the main story

The game gives you a few Crystallization Catalysts for progressing through it. After you complete the main story of The First Descendant, you’ll receive a tutorial quest explaining what Crystallization Catalysts are. During this quest, the Descendant Instructor in Albion gives you enough materials to research one Crystallization Catalyst.

Defeat the Hanged Man and Hard Colossi

Another quest awaiting you after completing the main story is Colossi from Another Dimension. This quest awards you with the Crystallization Catalyst for defeating the Hanged Man. It’s a tricky Colossi as, unlike other bosses, it has a dedicated mechanic everyone on the team should know.

Defeat the Hanged Man, and the quest will offer you more Crystallization Catalysts for defeating bosses in Hard Void Intercept Battles. Starting with Executioner, you can tackle these bosses to earn more enhancement materials for your weapons and Descendants.

Complete Bunny’s questline

When you unlock Bunny during the main story, you can access her exclusive questline. This questline requires you to play as Bunny and has multiple steps, including the Follow Their Traces, The Traces Continue, and In Search of the Relic quests. Completing the entire questline awards you with another Crystallization Catalyst.

Buy Crystallization Catalyst from the shop

Alternatively, you can buy Crystallization Catalysts from the store for 300 Caliber each. That comes to around $5 per use—not exactly cheap, especially since you need multiple per Descendant or weapon.

Head to the Shop menu and in the Support Material tab, scroll to the bottom. You can also buy Energy Activators, Phase Exchangers, Ion Accelerators, and more materials that allow you to optimize your favorite builds.
