If you’re here, you’re probably trying to make Energy Activators for your Descendants or Weapons. To build these annoying progress-halting items, you need Polyatomic Ion Particles, among other materials.

The best way to farm Polyatomic Ion Particles in The First Descendant is by doing the Common Relay Mission in Fortress on any difficulty.

Polyatomic Ion Particles drop from elite monster mobs, which only appear during missions in Fortress. The idea is to find a fast mission with as many elite mobs as possible. After some testing, we found that the Command Relay Mission in the Frozen Valley (Fortress) is the best and fastest way to farm elite monster mobs. You can do this mission as many times as you want on either Normal or Hard difficulty (we recommend Normal).

During this relatively fast mission, two elite monsters spawn which drop about five Polyatomic Ion Particles each. When you start the mission, make your way to the circular battlefield and start killing enemies while remaining in the circle (Use Bunny or Ultimate Bunny to make the process even faster). This can be pretty frantic, and enemies can easily surround you, so it’s a good idea to bring a friend along for support.  Eventually, the first elite mob, Elite Vulgus Panzer, will spawn. Kill him for your first set of Polyatomic Ion Particles.

Keep fighting the mobs until another elite mob spawns. This time, it will be the Elite Vulgus War-Slave. Destroy him and collect even more Polyatomic Ion Particles. After you do this, feel free to abandon and restart the mission. One more boss spawns in the end, but it doesn’t drop any Polyatomic Ion Particles, so it’s actually faster to restart the mission after downing the Elite Vulgus War-Slave. This whole process lasts about five to eight minutes.

Rinse and repeat this process, and you’ll be swimming in Polyatomic Ion Particles. Now go and make those Energy Activators.
