TSM is ready to begin its foray into nascent esports world of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The legendary North American esports organization announced its first team for the game today. Marius “aimPR” Ionita will join Colton “Viss” Visser, Austin “SmaK” Haggett, and Gary “BreaK” Marshall. All of the players on the team are successful PUBG streamers on Twitch. “I’ve spent a bunch of time playing with and against Viss and BreaK in the past, and I look forward to being on the same team with them,” said Ionita in the announcement. “I’m really honored that the prior three members have chosen me to be their fourth. With some hard work and dedication, I’m sure we can rise to the top of PUBG and live up to the TSM name.” The announcement said that Ionita had previously found success in Counter-Strike 1.6, DayZero, and Arma 3, where he won the Battle Royal Season 1 Finals and the Bohemia END GAME Tournament. In the Bohemia tournament, he teamed with his new teammate, BreaK. The future of PUBG as an esport is uncertain right now, but the game is hugely popular on Twitch, where it was the second-most watched game just three months after its release on Steam early access. Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene and the development team at Bluehole Studio have said in the past that esports is not a priority right now, but something they will look into once the game is finished.
