Since the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon in 2016, fans have been enthralled by the mysteries surrounding Ultra Beasts—strange-looking Pokémon that come from other dimensions through the use of Ultra Wormholes. These fearsome creatures have reappeared time and time again in the main series titles, even making their presence known in the anime and other Pokémon titles.
The world of Pokémon Go was invaded by the Ultra Beasts a few years ago and they’ve been returning for players to encounter, battle, and catch each time they reappear. Among these Ultra Beasts is the ever-hungry Guzzlord, a Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon with a fearsome appearance that is often considered one of the most dangerous Ultra Beasts currently known.
Referred to by researchers as UB-05: Glutton, Guzzlord occasionally returns to Pokémon Go in five-star Raids, requiring a group of players to come together for a chance to add it to their parties. Yet players have only been able to encounter the regular coloration of this Ultra Beast up to this point, gatekept from the bright white and deep oranges of its Shiny form.
Fortunately, as part of the October 2023 content preview, Niantic revealed that Guzzlord will once more appear in Raids—and a special purchasable ticket—just in time for the month’s spooky activities, this time with a special Shiny treat for lucky players.
Can Guzzlord be Shiny in Pokémon Go?
Starting on Oct. 6, Guzzlord’s reappearance in five-star Raids will bring about the availability of its Shiny form in Pokémon Go.
Previously, the only way to obtain a legitimate Shiny Guzzlord was through hunting it in either Pokémon Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon, or through The Crown Tundra DLC pack for Pokémon Sword and Shield. But now, if players are lucky, a Shiny Guzzlord can be theirs without needing a copy of these main title games.
Guzzlord will also be featured in Raid hour events on Oct. 11 and 18 from 6pm to 7pm local time, in which it will inhabit the Raids of nearly every Gym. It is unclear when Guzzlord will return to the Raid rotation after it leaves on Oct. 20, but any future reappearance will have the possibility of being a Shiny when in the catching phase.
