Hopefully for players, this issue will be resolved soon.

For all of Halo Infinite’s faults when it comes to the missing features and the small portion of total maps available, the gameplay itself is one of the most fluid and complete in a long time. The ranked maps feel balanced, and since the game’s launch, 343 has been steadily increasing and improving the seasonal and event content that’s released.

While the player numbers certainly aren’t up to the standard set when the game was first released in November 2021, there’s a decent foothold of players spread across Steam and Xbox platforms. Unfortunately for those players, sometimes their gameplay is negatively affected by problems connecting to the dedicated server.

What is the ‘problem with the dedicated server’ error in Halo Infinite?

A common issue players are encountering is the error message reading “There was a problem with the Dedicated Server.” When this issue occurs, it’s typically because players are unable to connect properly to the Halo Infinite servers. Players being affected by this will experience serious connectivity problems during matches or will be unable to connect to matches at all.

How to fix the ‘problem with the dedicated server’ error in Halo Infinite

First, you should check to see if there are any outages or server problems on either Microsoft or 343’s side. Usually in this situation, it’s a server problem that is out of the player’s hands. Check the Halo page for Down Detector first since Halo doesn’t have a dedicated page for server status. If you notice a spike in reports, it’s likely a server issue on 343’s side. Any extremely serious issues will be tweeted out by the official Halo Support channel as well, such as on Sept. 7, 2022 following a wave of reports.

If 343 tweets out that the issue is affecting Halo Infinite and the Master Chief Collection, then it’s almost certainly a server issue on their side.

If you’re experiencing issues that don’t appear to be coinciding with server issues, then here are some steps you can try:

  • Restart your game.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Check your internet connection via router settings or a speed test.
  • If problems persist on the Xbox app on PC, consider switching to Steam.
  • Submit a ticket to Halo Support.
