Following your introduction to the ’80s trio in The Casting of Frank Stone, you set out to repair their broken camera lens—but can you haggle for something better?
This small adventure to the Drugstore or Curiosity shop ends at Endless Curiosities regardless. While your camera cannot be repaired, another is offered to you for a small fee. Given the opportunity to haggle, do you take it?
Playing as Chris, you can either accept the asking price or haggle. It seems like another important decision, but is it? Here’s whether you should haggle or accept the shopkeeper’s price in The Casting of Frank Stone.
The Casting of Frank Stone: Should you haggle with the shopkeeper in Endless Curiosities? (spoilers)
If you’re attempting to save everyone in 1980 and 2024, then the pocket mirror won’t affect your playthrough. In this sense, it doesn’t matter if you haggle with the shopkeeper. If you’re playing as Chris however, and you decide to keep her in 2024, rather than return to 1980, then this will have a huge impact on the ending you get.
The pocket mirror will kill Chris if you choose to enter the projector inside Gerant Manor. This can only happen if you decide to stay in 2024, after being pulled into the portal back in chapter five. Chris’s decision to return to 1980 via the projector (instead of the horologium) greatly impacts her fate. If she has the pocket mirror on her, she will die as she attempts to return to 1980. However, leaving the pocket mirror behind and accepting the shopkeeper’s price will give you the most interesting ending in The Casting of Frank Stone.
This item was called a “good luck charm” by the shopkeeper, so naturally, I assumed she was lying. The mirror works similarly to Jaime’s firecrackers, appearing in one event that can either save or end a character’s life.
I had the pocket mirror on me and saved everyone, but I also left the pocket mirror and still saved everyone. Two playthroughs, one result. You don’t need to haggle with the shopkeeper to achieve the good ending. However, if you want the incredibly interesting secret ending starring Chris, then make sure you don’t haggle with the shopkeeper and keep her alive until the very end (in 2024).
