The Mechanical Mayhem update in LEGO Fortnite finally allowed us to build a fully functioning plane. If you’re ready to conquer the skies, here’s how to build a plane in LEGO Fortnite.
The process of building a plane consists of two phases—farming materials and unlocking the necessary recipes, and then building the plane. The first part definitely takes a while longer than building the plane, but trust me when I say it’ll be worth it.

Steps to build a plane in LEGO Fortnite
Once you have all the materials, move to a field or any flat surface to build the plane, and then follow these steps:
- Build the Small Dynamic Foundation
- Put the Driver’s Seat in the middle of the platform
- Place the Power Center right behind the seat and fuel it up with a Power Cell
- Add turnable wheels to the front of the vehicle and powered wheels to the rear (make sure that all wheels are turning in the right direction)
- Put planks on the sides of the platform as if they were wings
- Place one Small Thruster at the end of each wing
- Place one Small Thruster next to each front wheel
- Put one Small Balloon on each of the wings
The final thing you need to do is to use the Wrench to adjust the attributes of the thrusters. Your wing thrusters should have the same attribute, while the two thrusters connected to the platform should have individual attributes. This will allow you to turn the plane mid-air, so make sure to do it correctly.
With that, the building part is done. You can make the plane bigger or add decorations to it if you want, but keep in mind that all that will make the plane heavier and affect its controls. I suggest you get the hang of using this base model before making any changes yourself.
How to control your plane in LEGO Fortnite
Now’s the time for the fun part—flying the plane. To take off, add one more balloon at the end of each wing. This should be enough to lift the plane in the air, but if you want to go higher, you can always add more balloons.
When in the air, hop into the Driver’s seat and use the red, green, and blue attribute buttons to fly forward, turn left, and turn right. The turning can be a bit clunky, though. If the plane doesn’t want to turn properly, turn the thruster off and on again or use the opposite thruster instead.
Once you reach your destination, leave one balloon on each of the wings, and the plane should gradually descend. If you want to drive the plane on the ground after flying, I recommend removing the balloons completely, as they can mess with the controls and slightly lift the vehicle when driving.
