Focus Points are important resources used for combo’ing attacks in Black Myth: Wukong. There are several different ways to earn Focus, but once you’ve built up Focus Points you’ll be able to use them with different Heavy attacks to dish out damage and knock enemies off their feet.

Most Heavy staff attacks or Staff stances can’t even be used without first building up Focus, which you can spot at the bottom-right of your HUD. The bar to the left of your current stance will build up, and once it tops out, you’ll earn a Focus Point (on the right of the stance).

The main method to building up Focus is by dealing damage with your Light attacks. Create combinations of smaller hits and Staff Spin shots to build up the meter, then once it caps out and you earn a Focus point, throw in a Heavy attack to stagger a target. Landing perfect dodges also grants a little bit of Focus, so time your dodges well!

Alternatively, you can enter your Staff Stance and charge up your Focus then expend it all at once, but keep in mind you’ll be standing still while you do this and, with a large animation once you expend them, can be easily caught off and take a heavy hit in the process. Be sure you’re able to avoid an incoming enemy attack before charging up.

To start Black Myth: Wukong, you’ll only have one Focus Point available—but as you progress through the game and level up, you’ll be able to increase how many Focus Points you can hold at a given time.

To increase how many Focus Points you can hold, you’ll need to use Spark points to level up your Staff Stances. Spending points in Staff Stances will contribute to unlocking your next Focus Point slot. Here’s how many points you’ll need to unlock additional Focus Points:

  • One Focus Point: Unlocked by default.
  • Two Focus Points: Spend three Spark points in the Staff Stances tree.
  • Three Focus Points: Spend 10 Spark points in the Staff Stances tree.
  • Four Focus Points: Spend 20 Spark points in the Staff Stances tree.

A heads up on the fourth Focus Point: It won’t last forever, with your charge bar depleting quickly, so if you manage to hit four Focus Points be sure to expend them all as fast as possible for a massive burst of damage and stagger!
