The Soulslike game is currently aiming for an Aug. 20 release date and is dominating the top seller list at the time of writing. It’s pushing ahead of numerous flagship and blockbuster titles, including God of War (which is currently at a steep discount) and the upcoming Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, which holds the third spot. Other games include Elden Ring and Borderlands 3, the latter of which is also selling at a 90 percent price decrease and is likely riding the hype of the movie adaptation.

Black Myth: Wukong aims to challenge the position of critically acclaimed Souls games developed by FromSoftware, particularly Elden Ring which is one of the best-selling games of all time. Though, from what we could see in the trailer footage, it might do the game more justice to compare it with the likes of Lies of P that proved FromSoftware isn’t the only studio out there capable of creating titles in this mysterious genre.

The Journey to the West-inspired game is being developed by Chinese studio Game Science and is one of many new games we’re seeing coming out of the country to tackle the massive Western gaming sphere. Fans are also expecting another similar game, Phantom Blade Zero, whose release date is unknown and details are few and far between other than a gameplay reveal shown during the Summer Games Fest.

Whether or not the hype and massive sales are justified will be revealed when the game drops in less than two weeks’ time on Aug. 20.
