You never keep your rank forever in Apex Legends. The game’s ranked mode keeps track of how you stack up against the rest of the world’s players, but that rank will regularly reset to keep things fresh. Of course, sometimes that reset is unintentional.
On Aug. 12, 2024, Apex players logging into the game found their ranks reset only a week after the new season had begun. This obviously wasn’t supposed to happen as ranked resets usually take place several weeks into the season, and the first split of season 22 was supposed to go on for six weeks. But is there anything you can do about it?
Did ranks reset early in Apex Legends season 22?
Yes, if your Apex rank has reset on Aug. 12, your rank has reset early—and that wasn’t supposed to happen.
It’s unclear at this point if this was a bug or if there’s something else happening in the backend of Apex, but the ranked reset seemed to take everyone by surprise, Respawn included. The devs said they’re already looking into the issue and will keep the community updated on their progress as they continue to work on it.
Rest assured, this is an unintentional ranked reset and not a one-week split.
Can you fix the Apex Legends rank reset bug?
Unfortunately for players, it doesn’t look like there’s any fix you can employ that will get you your rank back before Respawn launches its own solution to this problem. Unlike spamming a lobby entry or restarting your game to try to bypass server errors, this one looks like it’s all on the devs’ end of things.
At the moment, it’s probably best to avoid logging into Apex if you haven’t already done so. There’s no telling if the ranked reset will only activate based on you logging in. And if the devs do manage to revert this change and give people their old ranks back, it might be best to not put a bunch of new hours into ranked to attempt to grind back up to where you were—that effort might go to waste if ranks do end up being restored.
When do ranks normally reset in Apex Legends?
Ranks reset at the beginning of every ranked split—either the beginning of the season for the first split or the midway point of the season for the second split. At these times, there are usually also updates to the map rotation and balance changes that occur to accompany a new split.
