Apex Legends features many seasonal events on prominent holidays, with April Fool’s Day being no exception. For Season 20, Respawn added back five limited-time versions of the Mozambique featured in past April Fools events, each using a different type of ammo and completely different stats from the original shotgun.
The official Apex account did not announce the start of the festivities, but all players would have seen a new minor update on Steam or their console of choice. Upon loading the game for the first time, players unlocked the Fool Proof 2024 April Fool’s Day badge for all legends as the only official in-game confirmation of the event’s start.
April Fool’s Day 2024 has taken over the standard Trios and Duos playlists for battle royale and has the special Mozambiques as part of the loot pool, or in Neutral Care Packages. All three Mixtape game modes feature the seasonal Mozambiques as part of the pre-set loadouts in Team Deathmatch and Control, or in the 25-weapon ladder for Gun Run.
Season 20 brings its own unique twist for the battle royale playlist, with the ability to launch any legend into the air by firing at the ground. Savvy players have already tuned into using the ability for new airborne ambushes, or rotations that can take a squad across the entire map, all with one magazine from an LMG or Rampart’s Mobile Minigun Shiela.
The event continues the April Fool’s tradition of sweeping changes to what’s considered the worst gun by the community. 2021 introduced the golden shotgun bolt, alongside an increased magazine size, while 2022 featured Ol’ Nessie, a gun that dealt no direct damage but shot out miniature Nessie mascots that seek out enemies and injure them.
In addition, Nessie-skinned enemies return to Storm Point from the 2022 event, replacing the normal Prowlers and Spiders that are featured around the map. All enemy Nessies are bigger than the usual enemies encountered and have a higher chance of spawning any of the seasonal Mozambiques as part of their dropped loot.
April Fools marks the second event of season 20, the last one to be introduced before the first ranked split ends. Like all Apex events, the playlist will only last for a limited time, before the new weapons are shelved, and all changes are reverted to normal.

Apex’s April Fools event will only last for one full day in the Trios, Duos, and Mixtape playlists, ending with the global daily playlist reset on April 2, at 12pm CT.
Past April Fool’s Day events have always lasted for a full 24 hours before resetting back to the standard playlist rules, and the community can expect the April Fool’s changes to end at the same time. Players in-game can also track how much time is left by checking the map rotation timer while selecting Trios, Duos, or Mixtape playlists.
