Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends, the new free-to-play battle royale shooter that’s set in the Titanfall universe, is a game with many intricacies. The very best player will not only have an incredibly accurate aim, but they’ll also have all the technical skills, tricks, and map awareness to go with it.
Although Apex doesn’t have fall damage, unlike similar games in its genre—like PUBG and Fortnite—it still has an impact stun. This means that from a certain height, rather than taking damage, your character will be stunned in place, stopping you and making you unable to perform any actions. It’s not a long stun, but if you’re about to enter the fray of a battle or you’re quickly scrambling to pick up a weapon, it can be a detriment.
In some situations, the impact stun could make the difference between living and dying—and even if it only ends up killing you once in a blue moon, it’s still something that’s best to avoid if possible.
Luckily, there’s a method to avoid the stun—and it’s pretty simple to achieve. It could be a bug that Respawn Entertainment didn’t intend to add into the game and it may get fixed in the near future, though. But for the time being, you should go out of your way to actively abuse this tactic.
All you have to do is kick or melee just before you hit the ground, as shown above. You’ll momentarily be stuck in the animation, but it means you’ll have the capacity to freely move around—and this can be extremely useful in some circumstances.
