Now that Halo 5 has been around for a little over a month, we have been able to see most of the top teams scrim on stream. There have been many team improvements and there have been many declines. One name that always comes to my mind is Evil Geniuses (EG). For those of you who didn’t see EG’s dominant performance throughout the first two seasons of the Halo Championship Series, EG was able to win 5 out of the 7 LAN events they attended, which is amazing considering all of the talented teams they had to go up against.

Throughout the time they were dominating, EG was able to slowly build an unbreakable level of confidence that allowed them to maintain their composure in close game situations. This aggravated many teams and made EG look untouchable for a long period of time. Nearing the end of S2 however, we started to see a different side of EG. Communication amongst the team members seemed off and their overall performance looked weaker. Even though EG continued to win during this time, many fans started having doubts about their future. Statistically speaking, EG is still the #1 ranked team in the Halo Championship Series, but will that remain true in Season 3? With every new game comes new talent. Whether it’s a long time pro who can adapt well to the game or a rookie who was born to dominate, there will always be new players capable of taking over at the top. [Vote in our Halo Championship Series Power Rankings.] Although I feel EG will not be as dominate as they were the past two seasons, EG has proven to all of us that they are still the top contender in the game, considering all the teams they have been able to beat in scrims. However, since scrims are the only thing we can really judge teams off of at this moment, it is not easy to predict true team potential coming into Season 3 of the HCS. With that being said, many new teams such as Team EnVyUs and Team Liquid have been looking good these past few weeks and many players within these teams have improved greatly with Halo 5’s mechanics. These teams have also shown great strength when playing against EG, with both teams winning several games against them in dominate fashion. With the competition getting this good, it’s very hard to imagine EG continuing to dominate over the entirety of this season. Besides nV and Team Liquid, there are several other teams that can keep up with EG and put on a very good run. Teams such as OpTic, Allegiance, CLG, and Winterfox are all playing well and have a lot of room for growth. At least one of these teams are bound to make a solid Championship run.
