Elements play a major role in Enotria: The Last Song. Early into your journey in the soulslike, you’ll meet enemies that have a bright red bar where their health would normally be. It’ll be accompanied by one of four symbols. If you don’t choose the right weapon or Mask Line to fight these foes, you won’t do much damage to them.

That’s because some enemies have resistances to certain Elements, and you’ll need to attack them with their counter if you want to chip away at their health more efficiently. There are four Elements—Vis, Gratia, Malanno, and Fatuo—in Enotria: The Last Song, and certain weapons and Mask Lines will do more damage in one type of Element compared to the others.

You can see what type of damage weapons do by looking at them in your inventory. Mask Lines indicate which Elemental damage they do (if any) in their description; some will only do Ardore damage. To make the most out of the Elements in Enotria: The Last Song, you need to know which elements counter and resist each other.

Here’s everything to know about elemental damage in Enotria: The Last Song.

Element chart – Resistances and counters in Enotria The Last Song

Elements in Enotria: The Last Song work like typings in Pokémon; each Element is strong against one but weak to another. There’s a graphic in the top left-hand corner of your screen that shows this cycle, but if you’re just starting out, it can be confusing to know which symbol represents which Element.

Each Element has a weakness, strength, and resistance. For example, Vis, represented by a purply wine glass symbol, is strong against Malanno, the green plague doctor symbol. But Vis is weak to Fatuo, and like the other Elements, it resists itself. So if you see an enemy who’s proficient in Vis, you’ll want to equip a weapon or Mask Line that specializes in Fatuo. If you try to attack it with a Vis weapon, it won’t do much damage.
