Follower traits are usually acquired when a new member is recruited into the player’s cult. These traits can be negative or positive, and are usually random—unless acquired through a specific Relic or through an assigned Doctrine. These permanent traits will determine what kind of cult you will run, whether you believe in a gentler approach to loyalty or a cult run by fear and an iron fist.

Although there are some basic traits that can hinder or help a Follower, there are also some top-tier traits that can turn them into a key member of the congregation and help expand your following even further.

For those who are building the perfect cult, here are the best Follower traits in Cult of the Lamb.

There are about 24 randomly assigned positive traits that Followers can spawn with, but there are also 20 Cult Traits you can acquire through Doctrines. These traits can also be chosen to combine their effects so they can benefit your cult in the long term.

Here are some of the best Follower traits you can pick in Cult of the Lamb through Doctrines.

Cannibal and Belief in Sacrifice

If you wish to solve any hunger issues while still keeping the faith high within your cult, grabbing both Cannibal and Belief in Sacrifice could be a great combo for your Followers. By removing all penalties for eating fellow Followers and gaining the ability to sacrifice Followers for more faith, you can sustain your flock with infinite amounts of food while still gaining plenty of strength and rewards for yourself.

Grass Eater

Grass is in heavy supply whenever you jump into a raid in Cult of the Lamb, and if you aren’t able to get enough fruits, vegetables, or meat for your hungry flock, then Grass Eater is the cheapest and easiest way to keep your people full.

Grass Eater allows your Followers to eat the basic Grassy Gruel meal without losing any Faith or getting sick, which means you won’t need to put much effort into getting better ingredients to make meals.

Faithful

Sometimes, simplicity is all you need when running a successful cult, and the Faithful trait is as simple as it gets. When applied, all Followers will generate 15 percent more Devotion when praying, which will help you upgrade your base and buildings through Divine Inspiration. It is a great upgrade in the beginning of the game, where you’ll want to unlock more buildings for your camp.

Industrious

In a similar vein, Industrious is a great trait to choose early on in the game, since it increases your Followers’ work speed by 15 percent. Like the Faithful trait, grabbing more resources to build out your camp should jump your production ahead for better upgrades that’ll only speed up your effectiveness for the later portions of the game.

Disciple

If you perform the Ritual of Discipleship on a Follower, they will be elevated to a Disciple that can manage Dissenters, gather devotion around the camp into the Collected Shrine of Disciples, and also gives 100 Faith upon completing the ritual. You can also combine a Disciple with the Golden Skull Necklace, which renders that Follower immortal so they can help manage your camp for the rest of their life.
