Getting a horse is one of the fastest ways to explore the world of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, but it takes a few hours of game time before you’re even given the option to find one.

The horse was advertised heavily before the game’s release, and getting one is well worth it. Not only are they fast creatures to help get around Hyrule in a breeze, but they can even be used to attack certain enemies or reach far away areas. They are unlocked after completing a specific mission in a particular area, which we will show you how to get to.

To find a horse in Echoes of Wisdom, you must first beat the Suthorn Ruins to unlock access to most of Hyrule. After beating the Suthorn Ruins, you can explore more of Hyrule Field and reach Hyrule Ranch, located in the northwest, without even having to go through the main storyline.

When you arrive at Hyrule Ranch, you can take on the side quest Runaway Horse from the ranch owner. He asks you to find a horse that normally gallops west of the ranch before allowing you to borrow horses from the stable. You can look all over the western side of the ranch for a galloping horse, but you’ll never find her—and that’s because she got stuck somewhere.

To the very west of Hyrule Ranch is a small body of water. Head toward that mini lake, and you’ll find the horse stuck there, unable to escape. As Zelda, jump to the horse and use various echos like beds, tables, and crates to create an exit for the horse. After you do that, interact with the horse with the A button, and you can steer the horse out of the lake and back onto solid ground.

Travel back to Hyrule Ranch, and while on the horse, approach the ranch owner; you’ll complete the quest and can choose any of the horses available at any time to run around Hyrule with you. If you leave your Horse anywhere, you must head back to Hyrule Ranch to recollect it, which can be a pain. The horse is worth it, though, as it’s fast and can even damage enemies using its Dash attack.

There is a fourth white horse as part of the set. After completing the mission, you can approach where the ranch owner tells you you can’t ride that one for specific reasons. It makes us think that the horse is a bit faster than the others, and there has to be a way to unlock it through missions or other things in the future, but we have yet to find out what that is.
