‘Sound from a goose or a Ram’ Sept. 16 NYT Mini Crossword clue answer

A goose and a Ram can make the same sound—”HONK.”

It’s very common for cartoon characters to get in the head with a hammer or baseball bat, and a comedic “Bonk” takes place (which rhymes with Honk), and the solution is also slang for someone vomiting, or you can say someone has a “Honk” about them—but it’s polite not to.

‘Sound from a goose or a Ram’ NYT Mini Crossword difficulty rating

The deceptiveness of the NYT Mini Crossword strikes again! A goose hon,ks and I feel that’s fairly well-known, but the “Ram” aspect of the clue threw me off completely. I gambled on “Honk” as it matched up with a goose sound, and it was correct. I had to research the second part of the clue. “Ram” seems to refer to a Dodge Ram vehicle, which honks if you use the car’s horn. All things considered, I’m going for a two out of five rating for the difficulty—due to the goose aspect.
