Aug. 19’s Spangram is “BIGCAT,” referring to a group of animals spread all over the world that resemble your household feline friend in a much larger and often more dangerous form. The Spangram starts from the “B” in the fifth row of the left column and ends on the “T” in the sixth row of the right column.

‘Hear me roar’ Strands (Aug. 19) difficulty rating and solving process

I found this one of the easiest Strands solves I’ve done to date, though spotting “Cheetah” before finding the Spangram helped. From there, I had a pretty good idea that the remainder of the board would be similar animals.

I found cougar and Leopard the hardest to find because I couldn’t get “Polar” out of my head for Leopard. I even tried to see if “Bear” was nearby, even though bears certainly do not fall into the Big Cat category.

Rating the challenge on a five-star difficulty scale, I’d give it two out of five. No doubt it would be harder for anyone less versed in the animal kingdom, but don’t be discouraged if you have struggled.
