North American esports organization Envy has rebranded its VALORANT team to participate under the OpTic Gaming banner, the org announced today.
Both organizations merged last November but the Overwatch League’s Dallas Fuel and the VALORANT team were unaffected. Now, however, OpTic has taken over the VALORANT team just a few months following the merger.
The former Envy VALORANT team will compete under the OpTic brand during the VALORANT Champions Tour Stage One Challengers event in North America, which is set to begin tomorrow.
OpTic, who were placed in Group B, will face off against Rise on Feb. 13. Their next match is against NRG, who OpTic used to be partnered with for the Call of Duty League prior to their divestment.
The partnership between OpTic and Envy saw both entities acting under a joint brand for the Call of Duty League, in particular. The Dallas Empire brand was retired while OpTic and NRG sold the OpTic Chicago spot. The merger saw the two form the OpTic Texas franchise, which competes in the Call of Duty League.
OpTic has one of the best VALORANT teams in North America with in-game leader Pujan “FNS” Mehta leading the side. He’s joined by star duelist Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker, Victor Wong, Austin “crashies” Roberts, and Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen. OpTic are ranked as the third-best team in North America, according to VLR.gg.
The VALORANT Champions Tour Stage One Challengers event is set to begin tomorrow with Cloud9 facing off against 100 Thieves in the first match.
