How TFT Zaun trait and Chem-Mods work in Set 9.5

Buff up your team with Zaun technology.

Chemtech shenanigans returned to Teamfight Tactics through the Zaun trait in Set Nine Runeterra Reforged and Set 9.5 Horizonbound, featuring six Chem-Mods with a Mod and an Overcharge ability.

The Zaun trait in TFT Set 9.5 is often splashed into a final comp, unlocking the second breakpoint to gain two Chem-Mods and Overcharge through the fourth breakpoint. Champions who have the Zaun trait within Horizonbound are Jinx (two-cost), Warwick (two-cost), Ekko (three-cost), and Silco (four-cost). The trait has three breakpoints at 2/4/6 but is only considered a Gold-tier verticle trait. And running four is enough to unlock Overcharge on the Chem-Mods.

The TFT Mid-Set Update shifted up the Zaun trait, reducing the number of champions by one. But in exchange for fewer champions assigned to the trait, players can Overcharge two Chem-Mods through a breakpoint of four and five Chem-Mods at six Overcharge.

All Set 9.5 Zaun Mods abilities and stats

Chem-Mods power the Zaun trait and its units, with additional Mods getting unlocked with each breakpoint.   

  • Two: Gain one Chem-Mod
  • Four: Gain two Chem-Mods and Overcharge ability
  • Six: Gain five Chem-Mods and Overcharge ability

Zaun champions can only be equipped with one Mod, and Mods can only be removed by putting the Set 9.5 champion on the bench or selling the unit. Only Zaun champions or a unit with a Zaun Emblem can be equipped with a Chem-Mod. Augments that synergize with the Zaun trait and its Chem-Mods in TFT Set 9.5 are Zaun Heart, Zaun Crest, Zaun Crown, and Chemtech Enhancements

When a Chem-Mod is Overcharged, the equipped unit gains a bonus that is assigned to that Chem-Mod. All Chem-Mods are assigned randomly upon unlocking. In total, there are six Chem-Mods that can get equipped to a TFT Set 9.5 champion. All Zaun Chem-Mods were buffed for through TFT Patch 13.22.

Adaptive Implant

The equipped unit gains 40 percent attack damage and ability power while above 50 percent health. Upon dropping below 50 percent health, the equipped unit gains 40 percent Omnivamp. 

  • Overcharge: The equipped unit gains both effects, and its power is increased by 60 percent. 

Hextech Exoskeleton

The equipped unit gains 33 Armor and magic resistance. Every five seconds, all negative effects are removed, and the unit heals for 20 percent of maximum health.

  • Overcharge: Each time the equipped unit heals, deal 60 percent of the heal amount as magic damage to adjacent enemies on the board.

Robotic Arm

The equipped unit’s attacks have a 33 percent chance to trigger one additional attack. 

  • Overcharge: The equipped champion’s attacks deal 30 percent of attack damage as true damage. 

Shimmer Injector

The equipped unit gains 44 percent attack speed. The first time the unit has its health reduced to one, the attack speed bonus is increased by 100 percent, and the champion heals for 35 percent of their maximum health. 

  • Overcharge: Increase attack speed with a bonus of 400 percent and the equipped unit healing for 100 percent of their maximum health. 

Unstable Chemtech

The equipped unit gains 33 percent of its maximum health and explodes upon death, dealing 30 percent of its maximum health as magic damage to enemies within two Hexes. 

  • Overcharged: The explosion radius is increased by three Hexes and the explosion deals 45 percent of equipped units maximum health as magic damage to enemies within the radius.

Virulent Bioware

Whenever the equipped unit deals ability damage, Virulent Bioware releases a plague that causes enemies within one Hex of the target to take 20 percent more damage over the course of four seconds. 

  • Overcharge: The plague duration is increased to 10 seconds and deals six percent of the equipped unit’s maximum health per second as magic damage.

Update July 19 9:30am CT: All Chem-Mods were updated following the TFT Set Nine 13.14 patch.

Update Aug. 2 10:25am CT: Changes made to the Zaun trait from TFT Set Nine Patch 13.15 were added.

Update Sept. 13 2:30pm CT: All TFT Set 9.5 Mid-Set changes were applied to the Zaun trait.

Update Oct. 21 3pm CT: All TFT stats for Chem Mods and the Zaun trait were updated heading into TFT Set 9.5 Regional Finals.
