Here are all of the official patch notes for Stardew Valley’s 1.6 update. Some changes are massive improvements, some additions are rather odd and other features are minor but important bug fixes, so this update really has it all.

Keep in mind that these patch notes contain spoilers.

New additions

  • A new type of farm, which is the Meadowlands Farm, has been added to the farm maps you can choose from. This farm has chewy blue grass that animals love to eat and starts you off with a coop and two chickens, which means it might be one of the best farm types you can choose.
  • New festivals and events.
    • The Desert Festival is a Spring event that takes place over the course of three days after the bus has been repaired.
    • Two fishing festivals now occur, which are the Trout Derby and SquidFest.
  • A mastery system has been added. You can visit a new area to access powerful perks and items associated with it.
  • Up to eight players can play together on PC.
  • All NPCs now have winter outfits.
  • More NPC dialogue has been added.
    • The new dialogue includes custom reactions to gifts, individualized flower dance acceptance lines, and more dynamic dialogue when reacting to things happening.
  • You can have more than one pet now after you max your hearts with the first one.
  • Ginger Island now has a world map.
  • A bookseller comes to town twice each season now.
  • Pets that love you may now occasionally grant you gifts.
  • Festivals now have dialogue and map changes each year.
  • You can now find a golden Joja parrot to give all your extra golden walnuts to on Ginger Island.
  • Lewis now has a prize machine in his house. You can collect prizes from it using prize tickets you earn from quests, special orders, and repeatedly winning festival events.
  • New items have been added.
    • This includes a Big Chest, Dehydrator, Mushroom Log, Bait Maker, Heavy Furnace, Anvil, and more.
  • There are now turtle pets.
  • Two new cat and dog breeds have been added.
  • Eight new achievements are available to complete.
  • There is a big tree you can interact with to start a questline that unlocks new neighbors.
  • You can now get mystery boxes.
  • There are now more remix bundles.
  • There are four new cabin variants.
  • More accessory options are available in the character creator.
  • When you toss a baby, it now has a chance to land a critical hit.
  • Willy has a new bobber machine with 39 bobber styles to choose from. You can unlock more options at the machine by catching new types of fish.
  • Many secrets and easter eggs have been added throughout the game.

Bug fixes and changes

  • You can now drink mayonnaise.
  • Cats and dogs can wear hats now.
  • The area of effect for melee attacks facing downward has been extended.
  • All jellies, wines, juices, and pickles now match the color of whichever ingredients are used to make them.
  • All bachelors and bachelorettes you choose to have become your spouse have a seven-day honeymoon period so they won’t lay in bed upset all day anymore.
  • The amount of time it takes to push against a pet before they start shaking so you can pass through them has been shortened from 1.5 to 0.75 seconds.
  • Fruit trees that have been cut down now drop the correct fruit sapling matching the quality of the fruit. The better the quality is, the quicker the sapling will grow when replanted.
  • A bug that caused harvesting from left to right to be quicker than harvesting from right to left has been fixed.
  • Anchors, treasure chests, and pearls can now be added to any fish tank.
  • Some missing dialogue has been restored.
  • General visual improvements have been applied across the entire game.
  • Many balance changes have been applied to items throughout the game.
