It’s the end of an era as Shirley Curry, better known by her online nickname “Skyrim Grandma,” officially retired from gaming content creation at 88.

Curry uploaded a video to her YouTube channel on Sept. 22 entitled “No More Gaming Videos” in which she discussed an upcoming surgery on her right eye and informed viewers she will be retiring from making gaming videos after almost a decade of content. “It doesn’t make me too happy, but it’s something I feel now, and I don’t think you’re gonna like it either, but I can’t help it,” she said. “I’m old; I’m tired.”

As she articulated the process of procrastinating to make videos, Curry said, “lately, probably for the last month, I walk in here and look at my computer and think, ‘I’ve got to make a video today.’ And then, I just shake my head at myself and say ‘I don’t want to. I have no desire to’ and then I turn around and walk back out.”

Curry stressed she was “bored to death” with creating content, but encouraged fans to browse her old videos for plenty of entertaining Skyrim gameplay.

Followers of the Skyrim Grandma shouldn’t be missing her too much yet. Curry made it clear she plans to continue releasing vlog-style videos, but has simply chosen to engage with her other hobbies in her newfound free time.

Curry has amassed over a million followers on YouTube in her nine years as a content creator. She fondly refers to her online community as her “grandkids,” but Curry also has four children of her own, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren with whom she can enjoy retirement (again).
Curry’s legacy will live on in Bethesda’s gaming universe as well, as an online petition caught the attention of The Elder Scrolls developer and Curry will be honored as an NPC in The Elder Scrolls 6.
