In Skull and Bones’ economy, pieces of eight reign as a coveted currency with which to acquire black-market items. As players navigate the game’s perilous waters, this currency becomes the lifeblood of their pirate endeavors, allowing them to buy deadly assets like blueprints for weapons or ships that can turn the tide of a battle.
Successfully securing pieces of eight in Skull and Bones positions players as the most formidable forces in the competitive seas, and now that the game has been officially released, even more paths to acquiring pieces of eight have appeared.
How to acquire pieces of eight in Skull and Bones
Pieces of eight can be acquired by completing tasks on the Order Registry in the Helm, located inside your Smuggler’s Hideout. The hideout can be found at the Le Mont Muet in Sainte-Anne and will become available after you’ve managed to reach a certain Infamy rank and have progressed Spurlock’s story.
After acquiring Helm materials such as Sugar Cane, you can craft these items into fine goods called Helm Wares, and then deliver these wares by accepting orders at the Order Registry. During deliveries, you won’t be able to fast travel, and you will be susceptible to attacks from enemy AI rogue ships.
Aside from completing Helm missions, you can earn pieces of eight by completing various endgame activities like Hostile Takeovers and Legendary Heists, though you will have to capture manufactories and control trade routes first before these big fights. As the Skull and Bones seasonal post-launch schedule unfolds, new features like Helm Wagers will give players to opportunity to both risk and earn pieces of eight.
What can I spend pieces of eight on in Skull and Bones?
Once you’ve completed the starter quests for your Helm operation, you can buy a ton of items from Yanita Nara at the Le Pont Muet. Pieces of eight can be spent on smuggled resources, ship weapons, ship and player cosmetics, furniture, armor, blueprints, and plenty more. Other vendors will sell items for pieces of eight too. Some more valuable items like the blueprints for the Sambuk, will even cost you 5,000 pieces.
