This past Saturday, June 16, an unknown number of players were falsely banned from the game from a time period from 1pm CT to 3:30pm CT. The company acknowledged the error swiftly and eventually removed all bans from the affected players.

“As you know, one of our highest priorities is working towards eliminating hackers and cheaters from PUBG,” said PUBG Corp. “We’ve made great strides in this area recently, but unfortunately sometimes we get it wrong, which was the case recently when a number of players were improperly banned and were unable to access the game for a period of time.”

PUBG has had a long history with cheaters since it released into early access on Steam last March. Anti-cheat company BattlEye’s last full number of bans given in December 2017 was 1.5 million, but the company also said it banned over one million accounts in January alone.

Another report from BattlEye in February 2018 stated that over 99 percent of banned PUBG cheaters were from China,. As a result the comment sections of PUBG blog posts to be filled with comments spamming “Region Lock China” for the majority of this year.

The errant bans were unfortunate to be sure, but accidents do happen, and in the grand scheme of things the big goal is to shut down real cheaters. Plus, 20,000 BP should hopefully satisfy all players who were affected. Battle Points can be used in-game to buy crates that contain cosmetic skins for both player characters and weapons.
