Trading in SV can be a bit annoying since you’re matched randomly. Sometimes, you might end up with someone offering the exact same Pokémon as you. It’s a bit of a bummer, but there’s no guaranteed way to always trade with someone who has a different version of the game.

If you don’t get the Pokémon you’re after, just end the trade and dive back in to find a new trading partner. How quickly you match up depends on how many players are using the same code. Think of each code like a room—if it’s packed, you’ll pair up fast. If it’s more like a ghost room, you might have to hang tight a bit longer for someone to show up.

To use trade codes in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Indigo Disk, you need to have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription and then follow these steps:

  1. Run Pokémon Scarlet or Violet and press X to open the Main Menu
  2. Choose Poké Portal to get started
  3. On the next screen, look for Link Trade in the left menu—it’s the third option from the top
  4. Click on Set Link Code in the pop-up that appears
  5. Enter the trade code for the specific Pokémon swap you’re aiming for
  6. Hit Begin Searching to connect with another player
  7. Once you’re paired up, double-check the trade. If they’ve got the Pokémon you need, go ahead and make the trade happen

This will make it much easier to get those pesky version exclusive Pokemon that you may not have a friend to trade with for!

All Starter trade codes Pokémon SV The Indigo Disk

The previous list focused on new, versions exclusive, or Pokémon that need to be traded in some way to evolve. There is also a set of trade codes being used specifically for trading Starter Pokémon since every generation’s trio is now available in The Indigo Disk.

You can catch every Starter yourself if you go through the process of upgrading the Terarium, but that takes a lot of time and Blueberry Points (BP,) so it might be worth it to just upgrade one biome and try to trade those Starters for the other ones.

The community has formatted four-digit trade codes for each Starter Pokémon using their National Pokédex numbers. This is to make the entire process of looking for the Pokémon you need as simple as possible. So, for example, if you want to trade your Bulbasaur for a Treecko you would enter 0001-0252 as the Link Code. Here is a list of every Starter’s singular code, which you just need to pair with any other code to make a trade happen.

  • Bulbasaur: 0001
  • Charmander: 0004
  • Squirtle: 0009
  • Chikorita: 0152
  • Cyndaquil: 0155
  • Totodile: 0158
  • Treecko: 0252
  • Torchic: 0255
  • Mudkip: 0258
  • Turtwig: 0387
  • Chimchar: 0390
  • Piplup: 0393
  • Snivy: 0495
  • Tepig: 0498
  • Oshawott: 0501
  • Chespin: 650
  • Fennekin: 0653
  • Froakie: 0656
  • Rowlet: 0722
  • Litten: 0725
  • Popplio: 0728
  • Grookey: 0810
  • Scorbunny: 0813
  • Sobble: 0816
  • Sprigatito: 0906
  • Fuecoco: 0909
  • Quaxly: 0912

Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly can’t be caught in the wild, but there are still active trade codes for the newest Starter trio.

Now that you know all important trade codes for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Indigo Disk DLC, it’s time to get out there and complete that PokeDex with ease!
