Celesteela has returned to Pokémon Go for a brief time. While here, you have the perfect opportunity to challenge it in five-star raids and add this powerful Pokémon to your collection, so long as you have a good team to use against it.

Like all Pokémon, Celesteela is not an easy Pokémon to defeat. It’s an Ultra Beast, meaning you want to bring a handful of friends to compete against it in Pokémon Go. It won’t be around for long, and you want to ensure you know Celesteela’s weaknesses before challenging it.

Celesteela is a Flying and Steel-type Pokémon. It’s weak against Electric and Fire-type moves but resistant against Bug, Dragon, Fairy, Flying, Grass, Ground, Normal, Poison, Psychic, and Steel-type attacks. I recommend a team with a solid mix of Electric and Fire-type moves to optimize your strengths against it.

Celesteela is a relatively balanced Ultra Beast, unlike Kartana. It doesn’t specialize in attack or defense and instead has a solid balance of both, making it a difficult opponent to overcome. So long as you can prioritize its Electric and Fire-type weaknesses, you should be able to overpower it during a five-star raid, but it’s also important to know what attacks it can use against you. Here is Celesteela’s entire move pool in Pokémon Go.

  • Air Slash (Flying-type)
  • Body Slam (Normal-type)
  • Bulldoze (Ground-type)
  • Heavy Slam (Steel-type)
  • Iron Head (Steel-type)
  • Smack Down (Rock-type)

Unfortunately for players, it has Ground and Rock-type moves, making it ideal for countering any Electric or Fire-type Pokémon. Despite being able to hit these Pokémon with strong attacks, I still recommend using them during the battle to overpower Celesteela.

Best counters for Celesteela in Pokémon Go

When you fight against Celesteela, the best Pokémon to use in Pokémon Go are Mega Blaziken, Darmanitan, and Xurkitree.

Any type of Mega Pokémon is also a good choice in a five-star raid, but Mega Blaziken is ideal to boost other Fire-type Pokémon your allies use during the fight. Plus, it has a variety of Fire-type moves it can use to lean into Celesteela’s weaknesses, making it a solid choice for your team. The best moveset to teach Mega Blaziken is the fast move Fire Spin and the charged moves Blast Burn and Blaze Kick.

Next, we have Darmanitan, another Fire-type Pokémon. You can use the normal Darmanitan or the Shadow Darmanitan for this fight. For anyone who wants to rely more on overwhelming damage, the Shadow Darmanitan is likely the superior option. The already low defenses for Darmanitan will drop substantially, but it’s worth it. The best moveset for Darmanitan is to teach it to use the Fast Move Fire Fang and the Charged Moves Overheat and Focus Blast.

The last Pokémon I want to recommend for your Pokémon Go team against Celesteela is Xurkitree. It’s another Ultra Beast that appears every so often and is a supercharged Electric-type, making it ideal to fight against Celesteela. Like Darmanitan, though, it has far more attack power than it does defenses, so don’t expect the Pokémon to hold out long against Celesteela. The best moveset to teach Xurkitree is the Fast Move Thunder Shock and the Charged Moves Discharge and Thunder.

You still need to create a full team of six Pokémon to use against Celesteela in this five-star raid. You can use these other Pokémon to fill out the rest of your roster.

  • Chandelure
  • Charizard
  • Electivire
  • Entei
  • Heatran
  • Luxray
  • Magnezone
  • Manectric
  • Moltres
  • Raikou
  • Reshiram
  • Zapdos

You have a chance to catch Celesteela after beating them in Pokémon Go. There’s a slim chance you might catch the Shiny version of this Pokémon.
