One year ago today, Blizzard Entertainment pushed the live button on its Overwatch servers, and millions of gamers flooded in from around the world to push payloads, capture objectives, and begin their esports careers. Today, a celebration of that first year begins with Overwatch Anniversary.
Like all of the events before it, Anniversary features more than 100 new items to gain from loot boxes, including a ton of awesome new skins, voice lines, emotes, highlight intros, sprays, player icons, and more. Every hero now has a dancing emote, and they’re all pretty great.
Along with the loot box items comes three new arena maps: Castillo, Black Forest, and Necropolis. The new maps are inspired by other locations within the game, and they are also accompanied by a new one-on-one and three-on-three game mode .
Lockout Elimination is three-on-three. You compete as a team of three players in a series of fights and successful heroes are removed from later rounds. Limited Duel is one-on-one. Players face off in a series off fights and both players can only pick from the same set of heroes in every round.
Along with the event comes a new Game of the Year Edition of Overwatch, which includes digital bonuses and 10 free loot boxes. It’s priced at $59.99. Meanwhile, the standard version of Overwatch has now dropped to $29.99.
