YouPorn’s new Overwatch team will bring in players from its other titles—including Street Fighter

YouPorn is revamping its Overwatch team, and it’s doing so by pulling players from its other titles. Team YP, the esports arm of porn website YouPorn, is adding Street Fighter IV player Valentin “Valmaster” Petit to its Overwatch roster. “I need to practice a lot more than I normally would for Street Fighter,” Valmaster told Dot Esports. “My goal is to become one of those players who can play professionally for more than two games.” The all-French roster is led by team captain Chairil “Nightwane” Djoehana and filled out by former Evolve players Sébastien “Hajaxa” Vaz de Pinho and Stéphanie “Ninaa” Viane. Rounding out the roster are Abreu “Yoshi” Carlos and former Pulse Gaming player Ivan “Osnazeni” Markeljic. Overwatch teams aren’t typically thrown together with players from a variety of games, especially when those games are outside of the shooter genre—like Valmaster and Street Fighter. Often Overwatch professionals saw success in games like Team Fortress 2, like NRG Esports original Overwatch roster, or Battlefield 4, the game that Fnatic’s original Overwatch team swapped from. “We were looking for hard working players who have experience in the gaming industry and who know what it means to be a part of a team,” YouPorn vice president Brad Burns told Dot Esports. “If that person was a top tier player, great! But that’s not part of the criteria.” Instead, YouPorn put emphasis on finding players willing to dedicate the time to practice and become experts in Overwatch. YouPorn will support the team to get there, whether it’s team practices or bootcamps. “Our main goal is to help them grow, so we try to support any travel needs they have,” Burns said. “Whether it’s helping them to get to and from tournaments or if they need more team practices or bootcamps, since not all members are in Paris, we support that as well.” The new roster will compete together for the first time during Montpellier ESports Show’s Overwatch tournament on Feb. 25 and 26. Should tournaments go as as planned, YouPorn is interested in bringing its team to developer Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch League. The all-French lineup would likely feel comfortable as Paris’ home team.
