Overwatch 2 is getting its “biggest content drop yet” this August with a new co-op mode, Support hero, and more all coming to the game in Invaision—alongside Story Missions that look to finally build on some type of narrative.
Most of the trailer has various Overwatch heroes discussing something strange happening with Null Sector in Toronto and other cities, narrating how they need to get on the ground to help prevent something awful from happening.
This is called The Rise of Null Sector and will see players teaming up in three different story missions. So it looks like this will be reminiscent of Overwatch Archive events that were co-op PvE missions rather than some kind of larger narrative, which Blizzard officially canceled last month.
Throughout the short showcase, you see glimpses of what looks like Lucio fighting a large Omnic boss and Reinhardt dropping the hammer in a room full of NPC enemies. A smaller co-op event will also let players explore King’s Row in a new way as they take on a mission to “save Tracer’s friend and the Omnic Underworld from Null Sector forces.”
A new core game mode called Flashpoint will be released alongside the Invasion update, which will see two new maps added that are the “biggest PvP maps” yet. Players will need to fight for and capture three key positions on those maps before the enemy, with no time to rest between Flashpoints.

Hero Mastery challenges are being added as a way to help players truly master their favorite characters or learn new skills through training courses tailored to each hero’s unique abilities. Global leaderboards will be included for this mode, with it initially set to launch supporting a handful of heroes ahead of future updates that will add more. A firing range is also dropping hot with this August 10 launch.
A new Support hero was confirmed for this update with a brief teaser too, but no additional information was shared.
Blizzard did confirm an exclusive DLC pack will launch with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate along with Invasion though. It is called the Overwatch 2 New Heroes Starter Pac and will feature Sojourn, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Ramattra, Lifeweaver, and the new hero paired with a Legendary skin for each hero and other in-game cosmetics.
