Blizzard hasn’t confirmed Overwatch’s next event yet—but according to game director Jeff Kaplan, we won’t have to wait long for more content.
Responding to a forum post titled “When are new items coming?,” Kaplan wrote that “a lot” of new content is on its way.
“Not only are there some really awesome items coming for upcoming events, early next year we’ll be adding a lot of new items to the base loot box,” Kaplan wrote. “You don’t have long to wait!”

Many Overwatch players have assumed that the game’s next seasonal event will be winter-themed, as the December event was last year. The Winter Wonderland event added a number of holiday-inspired skins, as well as a new game mode called Mei’s Snowball Offensive.
Last year’s event went live on Dec. 13. So if it’s returning again this year, there shouldn’t be too long of a wait, just as Kaplan suggested.
The new base items for the loot boxes that Kaplan mentioned are the Blizzard-themed skins the developer showed off at BlizzCon in November. The new skins pull from Blizzard’s other franchises, including Diablo, StarCraft, and World of Warcraft. It’s unclear if more new skins (or older seasonal skins) will be added to the base loot boxes as well.
