Halloween Terror was one of Overwatch‘s most iconic events. For years, Blizzard released new skins and pushed updates to Junkenstein’s Revenge, the event’s exclusive mode and one of Overwatch‘s first forays into PvE gameplay. A full PvE story mode is in the works for Overwatch 2, which will launch on Oct. 4 with only PvP at first.
It’s hard to understate the impact that Halloween Terror had on Overwatch and its community. Fans would grind for hours to beat the higher difficulties on Junkenstein’s Revenge, especially when later iterations of the event increased the pool of heroes that players could choose from. The event was also responsible for some of the game’s most iconic skins, from Witch Mercy to Dr. Junkenstein Junkrat and more. We’re curious what Blizzard will do to celebrate the spookiest holiday in Overwatch 2, but in the meantime, we’re rounding up the best skins from Halloween Terrors past.

Witch Mercy
You can’t have Halloween without a witch. Introduced as a part of the very first Halloween Terror event, Witch Mercy has remained one of the most popular skins in the game for several years. Witch is extremely detailed, from the magic tome hanging from her belt that reads “Vitae” (a play on the Latin word for “life”) to her classic pointy hat and equally pointed shoes. In Junkenstein’s Revenge, Witch Mercy is the all-powerful “final boss” that resurrects your fallen enemies. If that isn’t the best energy to bring into a competitive game, we don’t know what is.
Cultist Zenyatta
Cultist is another classic Halloween Terror skin that stands the test of time. Much of its legacy can be attributed to its dark twist on Zenyatta’s positive demeanor. This legendary skin turns the normally docile monk into a terrifying abomination who implores his allies to “experience nothingness” as he uses his Transcendence ultimate. Cultist also gives Zenyatta a Cthulhu-like mouth full of tentacles, which should be spooky enough to dissuade any flankers from trying to sneak up on your backline.
Warlock Ashe
Like all of Ashe’s skins, Warlock is really a two-in-one affair. The skin gives Ashe a cool outfit, but the real draw here is B.O.B.’s spooky makeover. The Big Omnic Butler is turned into a Big Omnic Golem with limbs of sharp rock and flowing magma. B.O.B. isn’t too intimidating in most of Ashe’s skins, but this look makes him look like the final boss of a lava level. If you’re a fan of weapon looks, Ashe’s Warlock weapon is one of the coolest in the game thanks to its glowing ember-like runes.
Totally 80s Zarya
Totally 80s isn’t scary in the traditional Halloween sense. Instead, it’s scary in a “what hellish workout has Zarya thought up for you” kind of way. This skin is based on the outfits in Olivia Newton-John’s iconic “Let’s Get Physical” music video, complete with leg warmers, neon hair, and a feathered earring. Totally 80s is one of Zarya’s very best skins: she has precious few quality looks compared to some of the game’s other heroes, so we’re happy to say it deserves a spot on this list.
Dragon Symmetra
Dragon is an incredibly intricate and unique skin for Overwatch’s resident Architech. It completely transforms Symmetra’s look, trading her usual workwear for horns, a glowing, scaled dress, and a skirt made of wings. It was one of the most popular skins when it was first released and it remains one of her best skins to date, even in the face of ones like Figure Skater. Any respectable Symmetra main is sure to have this skin in their arsenal.
Coffin Bastion
Bastion’s boxy shape might seem like it constrains him to particular designs and silhouettes, but the Blizzard design team has gotten a surprising amount of mileage with unique looks like his angular Null Sector skin and the grassy, more natural Overgrown, which is featured in the animated short “The Last Bastion.” Coffin is another of those unique skins: it gives us a look at the Omnic’s creepy inner workings, which are padded and nailed to perfection. His feathered friend Ganymede has been turned into the skeletal remains of a bird, and his face is a single lantern peering out into the darkness. Pretty spooky, if you ask us.
Draugr Reinhardt
Like Cultist Zenyatta, Draugr Reinhardt is creepy in the way it turns the normally kind and brave Reinhardt into a maniacally grinning villain. This skin is based on the draugr, a shambling reanimated corpse from Norse mythology. Reinhardt fits the bill well here with his bright purple skin, chipped Viking helmet, and the multitude of arrows sticking out of his armor. I wouldn’t want to see this running toward me on the battlefield bearing a rocket-powered hammer.
