Once Human‘s second update went live on Aug. 1, bringing new Specialization Memory Fragments, gameplay, vehicle, planting, combat, wilderness optimizations, and several bugfixes.
Developers Starry Studios posted the patch notes for the update on the game’s Discord server, with a full set of post-downtime notes included on Steam. Once Human servers were then down for about four hours from 11pm CST on July 31, with players unable to access the post-apocalyptic game until the full update was applied.

Memetic optimizations
A new item drop has been added in Once Human: Memetic Specialization Memory Fragments.
- After using a Memetic Specialization Memory Fragment, you’ll gain the corresponding Memetic specialization effect.
- Only three Memetic Specialization Memory Fragments can be used per season.
- There’s a chance of obtaining a random Memory Fragment when the item controller is used.
- At the end of every season, all Memetic Specialization Memory Fragments will be destroyed. They will not be sent to the Eternaland Depot.
- You can trade Memetic Specialization Memory Fragments.
Adjusted display elements on the Memetic Specialization screen:
- The stacking of distinctive metal ingots in the Backpack has been optimized.
- The display of Memetic Specializations in the gear details pop-up section has been optimized.
- The production output of regular ammo can be increased by 50 percent.
Gameplay optimizations
The Highway Pursuit game mode has been improved:
- A new Highway Pursuit route has been added to the Chalk Peak region.
- The event will now start at 9pm server time.
- Rosetta trucks will now automatically drop Sproutlets even if the player doesn’t attack them.
- The quantity of Sproutlet and reward drops has been increased.
- Item storage quantity and the Cargo Scramble game mode rules have been optimized.
Display elements are now easier to use:
- When you open the map, you can now click on a Monolith, Securement Silo, Public Crisis Event, Cargo Conquest, and other icons to open the details screen.
- A combat invitation function has been added to Public Crisis Events. You can now send invitations to other players via chat channels.
- Countdown timers have been removed for pressing Ready when you enter a Monolith or Securement Silo solo.
Vehicle optimizations
- Low-level Motorcycle acceleration and maximum speed have been increased.
- The acceleration and maximum speed of Off-Roaders and Coupes have been slightly increased.
- Players should no longer need to press a movement key once before being able to operate the vehicle.
- If a vehicle is stuck on terrain, you can now hold down the accelerator key to free it.
- A setting for auto-centering the vehicle camera has now been added. You can now turn auto-centering on or off while operating a vehicle.
- The vehicle repair and modification procedure has been modified. You must repair heavily damaged vehicles before they can be modified.
Planting optimizations
A continuous Planting function has been added to the Planter Box. This function will automatically use and replant previously used seeds and fertilizer.
Combat optimizations
- The attack buff gained from defeating a target with Doombringer will now stack.
- Damage in PvP mode will now be affected by the gear build.
- Bounce target selection rules have been adjusted. Black Water can’t be targeted by Bounce attacks.
- Weapon accuracy values have been adjusted, but the attributes haven’t been changed.
- A weapon inspection function has been added that can be accessed from the action wheel.
- A hit counter for the KAM – Abyss Glance has been added.
- When using iron sights on some KAM weapons, the field of view has been optimized.
Wilderness optimizations
- Construction is now impossible near the Scarecrow at Rippleby Market.
- A Camera Height option has been added to the Settings. Players can now adjust the character’s vertical position.
- The Wanderer’s movement path has been optimized. It can now move more effectively within a single region.
Interaction, art, and visual effects optimizations
- The appearance of Teleportation Towers has been optimized.
- The on-hit special effects for certain Deviants have been optimized.
- A control display function has been added. Players can now view their current controls and corresponding functions.
Deviation interaction optimizations
- The controls for synchronizing Deviation Abilities have been optimized. Players can now press “G” to interact with a Securement Unit to sync a Combat Deviation to their Cradle.
- The controls for withdrawing Deviations have been adjusted. After opening a Securement Unit, players can now press “U “to withdraw the Deviation.
Character, controls, and camera optimizations
- The camera, when interacting with the Bed furniture item, has been optimized.
- Your recovery time after being grabbed and thrown by a Deviant has been reduced.
- A character’s body will no longer cause their arms to clip when using a melee weapon.
- The camera sensitivity when reloading while scoped has been adjusted to be the same as that of aiming while scoped. Camera controls will be more fluid when reloading a weapon with a high-powered scope.
Task narrative optimization
Items sold at Claire’s shop are now included in the Settlement Shop to make it easier for players to view all purchasable items at traders in neutral Settlements.
In addition, you can now press “W” and “S” to scroll through dialogue options.
Cosmetics optimizations
- More hair color presets are added.
- The results screen for Rift Space, Securement Silo, and dungeon instances have been optimized to highlight players with outstanding performances.
- A results screen for The Prime War and Stronghold Conquest has been added. It congratulates the top-ranked players and displays various stylish effects based on their ranking.
Performance optimizations
- The resolution can now be changed on PC when playing in full-screen mode.
Trades
Nisa’s Loot Crate has been added to the Sproutlet Shop of Nisa, an NPC merchant who can be found in neutral Strongholds.
When opening Nisa’s Loot Crate, there’s a 30 percent chance of obtaining a Legendary Mod. If you don’t get a Mod, you will receive one of the following instead: 200 Acid, 20 Barreled Premium Fuel, or 67 Stardust Source.
Other adjustments
The Manibus scenario on PvE servers has been optimized. New server-wide tasks and rewards have been added for Phase Five of the season.
August-Themed Event
On Nalcott Island, August is an anomalous month. During this “forgotten summer,” you’ll get additional produce from harvesting every week. More events will be unlocked in the game.
Login Event: By logging in on Aug. 1, Aug. 8, and Aug. 15, special rewards will be unlocked, including the Epic cosmetic – Crimson Spider Gloves and a Butterfly’s Emissary Crate One. You can claim these rewards anytime before the event ends on Sept. 4.
Upcoming events
Wilderness Express: Starts on Aug. 15
- Race through the wilderness alone or as a team to earn a rating for mileage and collisions achieved. When you get the required rating, you can claim rewards, including Starchrom and the limited-edition cosmetic – Fulfilled Wish Vest!
Secure on Sight: Starts on Aug. 22
- Defeat enemies during the event to earn Loot Crates, which may contain Specimen Cards.
- Collect Specimen Cards and fill out the Specimen Encyclopedia to obtain rewards.
Shop arrivals
New arrivals are available in the shop:
- The Epic-quality outfit, Racing Loon, and a discounted theme pack have been added.
- The Neon series of Epic weapon cosmetics for the SOCR, MG4, and KV-SBR have been added, as have other popular weapons.
- The City Vending Machine cosmetic for the Vending Machine has been added. It’s the first facility cosmetic available and comes in three colors.
- The Sunny Coast Living Room furniture set has been added.
Bug fixes
- An issue with the Supplies Workbench specialization that caused its actual healing effect to differ from its description has been fixed.
- An issue where the Electrical Expert and One with the Tides specializations caused the number of Generators that could be placed to differ from their descriptions was fixed.
- An issue where the list of Memetic logging, mining, and gathering devices was displayed wrongly has now been fixed.
- The duration extension effect of Stardust Tea did not affect Hydration has been fixed.
- Fuel refinery facilities upgraded with Memetic specializations can now refine Barreled Crude Oil.
- The Automated Mining facility screen now displays the correct Veins.
- An issue where the button for returning to the list of facilities from the Facility Details screen should now work.
- The issue that caused mining facilities to produce Stardust Ore quickly has been fixed.
- The hydraulic generator will now generate electricity correctly.
- An issue that caused wires to stay on top of the Garage after recalling a truck has been fixed.
- In Eternaland, the devs fixed a display issue that occurred when placing Blueprints while using Flight Mode.
- An issue with building blueprints has been fixed, so small grids can be recognized when replacing materials.
- The issue where the description of Stardust Tea didn’t match its effect has been fixed.
- The issue that caused Deviant Energy Generators on the home-moving vehicle would not work correctly in a Pollution Zone.
- After moving the territory from a pollution zone to a normal region, the issue of Deviant Energy Generators not working but still displaying the working animation has now been fixed.
- The issue where the map’s navigation function sometimes fails to display the navigation route has now been fixed.
- The issue of players receiving the wrong item after buying a bait formula from the fish trader has now been fixed.
- The issue where the Durability attribute would turn yellow if the gear lost Durability has now been fixed.
- The issue where the Crossbow’s Calibration Blueprint could not be disassembled has now been fixed.
- The issue that caused a switching error on the right side of the weapon selection panel when replacing a Calibration Blueprint has now been fixed.
- The issue where some dropped weapons would randomly contain red-colored Blueprint attributes, so the weapon could not be disassembled to get its Blueprint has now been fixed.
- The inconsistent descriptions of The Weaver elixir and the Whim effect have now been fixed.
- The issue where if Hold to Sprint is enabled and the player is currently holding the Sprint key to sprint, clicking on Auto-Run would not stop the character from sprinting has now been fixed.
- The issue that caused some weapon crosshairs to display incorrectly in 4K resolution has now been fixed.
- An issue with the Mist game mode, where the center point’s location would be incorrectly determined, has now been fixed.
- The issue with The Prime War that caused the Shadow Hound to get stuck in the air when using its skill has now been fixed.
- The issue with The Prime War, where if more players than the maximum attempted to teleport, they would get stuck on the edge of the map, has now been fixed.
- The on-hit visual effect and effective range of manual turrets in The Prime War have been optimized, and this has now been fixed.
- The issue that caused Deviations to drop additional copies of items in Securement Silo – EX1 has now been fixed.
- The spawn rules of some Deviations in Securement Silo – PSI and Securement Silo – THETA. Dr. Teddy, Enchanting Void, Upper World Spawn, and Snow Globe will spawn in the correct scenario, which has now been fixed.
- The issue where Deviations whose skills have a designated target could not be recalled while the player was reloading has now been fixed.
- The issue where Mini Wonder would absorb teammates’ bullets in its range when attached to the player character has now been fixed.
- The issue that prevented Mini Wonder from defending against shotguns has now been fixed.
- The issue where the wrong text was displayed if you had not been friends with another player for at least seven days has now been fixed.
