In the press release from WESA, each of the seven teams in the council elected one member to represent them at the player’s council, and the council will “advocate on behalf of pro gamers on policies, rules, player transfers and more.”

Jendeby was selected unanimously among players from all participating teams in WESA, and will represent the full council in meetings with the WESA Executive Board.

“I’m looking forward to working with Commissioner Hershman and the fellow Executive Board members to ensure all players in WESA get the representation they deserve,” said Jendeby.

Ken Hershman, Executive Chairman and Commissioner of WESA, was thrilled to announce the full council, and looks forward to it setting the standard for players’ rights in esports.

“I have maintained that transparency in everything that WESA is doing is critical to its success, and giving the players a seat at the table is an important step in fulfilling that promise,” said Hershman. “I am confident that under the leadership of Viktor, the players will now be able to actively contribute to helping esports continue to develop.”

The full player council is as follows:

  • Jérôme “NiaK” Sudries (G2 Esports)
  • Chris “chrisJ” De Jong (mousesports)
  • Sergey “starix” Ishchuk (Natus Vincere)
  • Adam “friberg” Friberg (Ninjas in Pyjamas)
  • Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas (Virtus.pro)
  • Nathan “NBK” Schmitt (Team EnVyUs)
  • Viktor “vuggo” Jendeby (Fnatic) – Council Chairman

The first of its kind in esports, WESA was founded in May 2016 to work towards fair and predictable schedules, regulaized standards, revenue sharing, and adequate player representation. WESA, in theory, is striving towards standards seen in professional leagues, and looks to seven organizations, as well as ESL, to help advocate for those regulations.

No formal meetings or actions have been made or planned by WESA yet, however with the recent announcement of the player’s council, there is some indication that the association will start moving forward.

Now that the full player council for WESA has been announced, is this council a step in the right direction for esports?
