Despite droppping another Uplink game mode, Elevate took down the orgless Team 3G 3-1 to kickoff Championship Sunday at CWL London.

A group effort was critical to the success of the side, and Josh “Watson” Watson was happy to be in a Winner’s FInals for only the second time in his LAN career.

“I’m ecstatic obviously,” Watson said. “And playing either Infused or Orbit? We absolutely destroyed Infused the last time we played them, and Orbit are a good team. But everyone is excited for it.”

Watson has experienced two LAN Grand Finals in his career, and experienced his first ever Winner’s Finals at the Gfinity Open in April 2015. He later followed that up with a Loser’s Bracket run to the Grand Finals only two months later at the EGO Championship Series qualifier. He placed second at both of those events.

Although he is moving on to the Winner’s FInals, Watson did recognize that his team still struggles on Uplink, but feels that they are in better form than they were before the tournament started. Nevertheless, they are going to look to tweak their game and cut down on those small mistakes.

“We knew that we should have won that Uplink,” Watson said. “We missed four one pointers in total and had the confidence. We made our mistakes… And still took that confidence into that fourth map.”

Elevate not only punched their ticket to the CWL London Winner’s Finals, they also qualified for CWL Atlanta Pool Play in only two short weeks. With his eyes on Sunday’s prize as well as looking forward to the NA event, the mentality is the same: Keep calm, and carry on those Search and Destroy games.

“It’s just composure,” Watson said. “Americans are by far the bigger challenge, but if we can build that composure and work that S&D game because we don’t get that much practice on that, we’ll take it into there. Because the last time in Vegas, S&D was our struggle and we lost to Cloud9 who placed second. So coming off of this, composure and S&D experience are key.”
