Thanos is one of the most powerful cards in Marvel Snap. It’s one of the “Big Bad” cards in the game, meaning it will never leave Series Five. Of course, knowing the best Thanos decks is important if you want to dominate the meta.
It’s been one of the most popular cards in the Marvel Snap meta for months, and has been tweaked several times with both buffs and nerfs. Here’s everything to know about Thanos in Marvel Snap, including decks to use it in, how to counter it, and more.
Thanos card abilities in Marvel Snap
“At the start of the game, shuffle the six Infinity Stones into your deck,” is how Thanos’s card text reads. Thanos and his fully-kitted Infinity Gauntlet are a nightmare for both the Avengers and his Snap opponents in the game that was partially named after its actions.
Thanos is a six-energy, 10-Power card, but if you’re able to play all six Infinity Stones from the deck, it will be buffed to 20 overall Power, making it one of the strongest cards in the game.
But the utility of the Infinity Stones is just as important. Their abilities can turn the tide of battle as well, and you can find an easier time playing all of them combined with certain cards.
Here’s what the Infinity Stones do in Marvel Snap.
The Infinity Stones in Marvel Snap
Here are all the Infinity Stones that Thanos can give to your deck in Marvel Snap:
- Space Stone: (one-Cost, one-Power) – On Reveal: Draw a card. Ongoing: Nothing can stop you from playing or moving Thanos.
- Reality Stone: (one-Cost, one-Power) – On Reveal: Replace this location with a new one.
- Time Stone: (one-Cost, one-Power) – On Reveal: Give Thanos -1 Cost. Draw a card.
- Mind Stone: (two-Cost, one-Power) – On Reveal: Draw 2 Stones from your deck.
- Power Stone: (one-Cost, three-Power) – Ongoing: If you’ve played all six Infinity Stones, Thanos has + 10 Power. (wherever he is).
- Soul Stone: (one-Cost, one-Power) – On Reveal: Draw a card. Ongoing: Thanos can’t be discarded or destroyed.
Thanos strategy in Marvel Snap
Play. Those. Stones.
The general strategy with most Thanos decks is to play all of your Infinity Stones to buff Thanos as much as possible, all while combining the stones and their abilities with other cards to keep adding Power spread out across the board.
To do so, you will need to fill up your board with Infinity Stones, so you will likely clog up your own side. This means Thanos works well with Destroy cards that will help clear the side of the board once the stones are played, so there’s quite a bit that goes into each Thanos game.
The best Thanos decks in Marvel Snap
Thanos Zoo
Since the majority of the Infinity Stones have a one-Cost stat line, the Zoo engine is one of the best decks you can build for Thanos. This strategy aims to play as many one-Cost cards as possible which can be boosted by Ka-Zar and Blue Marvel in the late game.Â
Mystique can also be added to possibly copy the Ongoing abilities of either of those Power boosters, doubling the Power boost. Ant-Man and Dazzler, on the other hand, gain additional Power if you have locations that have four cards. Armor and Caiera are there to protect your cards, especially your one-Cost cards, while Cosmo can counter On Reveal abilities from both sides of the locations.Â
Add Magik to possibly extend the game, allowing you to set up your strategy for much longer. Cap off the deck with Cull Obsidian and Mockingbird, both of which have 10 Power and can lower their Cost depending on the cards you play.Â
Thanos Destroy
Here, the strategy is simple, which is to destroy your own cards in exchange for various effects, such as gaining additional Power, regenerating bonus Energy, lowering the Cost of your cards, and more.Â
Aside from the six Infinity Stones, the other potential Destroy targets in this deck are Deadpool, X-23, and Wolverine. As for your Destroy enablers, you can use Carnage, Venom, and Deathlok. Killmonger, on the other hand, destroys all one-Cost cards in the match, may it be from you or your opponent’s side of the locations.Â
Nico Minoru is there to provide toolbox effects, while Hulk Buster can potentially boost the Power of your destroy targets. Cap off the deck with the legendary Destroy duo of Knull, which gains the total Power of all destroyed cards in the game, and Death, which is an eight-Cost, 12-Power card that costs one less for every card that was destroyed in the game.Â
How to counter Thanos decks in Marvel Snap
Killmonger is great against Thanos decks that are looking to fill the board with stones, but it’s a risky play in case they are playing a Thanos Death deck because you’d just be helping them out at that point.
If the opponent is trying to draw stones, you can disrupt them by filling their deck with garbage with cards like Rock Slide. Darkhawk is also strong, considering he gets more powerful with each additional card in your opponent’s deck.
Leech is a catch-all card in Marvel Snap, so play him if you want to suck away any abilities in your opponent’s hand, including the abilities of all stones and Thanos himself, along with any of his combo cards they have waiting in the wings.
And these are the best Thanos decks in Marvel Snap. The Mad Titan may be a plain card without the stones, but the utility it provides can bring out a lot of creativity from players.
