Mattia Oneto beat Kenji Egashira in the finals of MTG Modern Online Championship yesterday after three days of Limited War of the Spark draft, Standard, and Modern Construction rounds.
The field began with 24 of the best online Magic: The Gathering players. It was narrowed down to just four by day three of the Magic Online Championship. Heading into the semifinals, MPL player Márcio Carvalho was facing off against Oneto, while streamer Kenji Egashira took on Bernardo Torres.
The semifinals consisted of one round of Standard and one round of Modern. If a third round was needed, the top-seeded player would choose between the two formats. Kenji (Tron) survived against Torres (Goryo’s Breach), even after taking several mulligans in the Modern round.
In the other semifinal match, Carvalho was the No. 1 seed playing an Esper Hero against Oneto’s Azorious Aggro in the Standard round. Oneto took round one, but Carvalho fought back with the dreaded Humans deck vs. Izzet Phoenix.

Carvalho’s Humans deck failed to find a land in round three for his Aether Vial and Oneto didn’t hesitate to take the match and head to the Magic Online Championship finals against Egashira.
Riding high off his win against Carvalho, Oneto took round one in Standard and immediately shut Egashira down in Modern with a Blood Moon to turn off all his Tron lands. And just like that, Oneto became the 2019 Magic Online champion.
