Following a chaotic April Fools’ Day event, the MC Championships (MCC) are back to normal with MCC 30. Everything about MCC 30 is set to be canon, and the Minecraft tournament runs as normal with the exception of a few minor additions.

For MCC 30, Noxcrew and Smajor are working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant a wish. The wish is to enjoy MCC in person, but since MCC is an online event, this means that the participant will be freely wandering around throughout the event and getting an up-close look as the tournament unfolds. There is also a special plushie placed near the Decision Dome that is their favorite, so players will see both throughout MCC 30.

For the pool of games in MCC 30, players had nine to choose from. This pool included Ace Race, Battle Box, Grid Runners, Hole in the Wall (Remix), Parkour Warrior, Sands of Time, Sky Battle, Meltdown, and Parkour Tag. Out of the available pool of games, Parkour Tag was skipped but all others were played.

All of the mini-games were the same as they usually are, except for Hole in the Wall and Ace Race. MCC 30 featured a remix for Hole in the Wall that brought back the food-eating mechanic featured in MCC Scuffed. Ace Race, which is a parkour and speed-centric racing game, received a massive change that makes it more skill-based than memory-based going forward. This change made it so that players’ paths on each Ace Race map change around each time. Battle Box also had a new map, but the game was normal otherwise.

MCC’s last event was MCC Scuffed and was non-canonical since it was focused on a special theme rather than on balanced teams and the competition itself. But MCC 30 returns to the canon and marks the 30th canonical installment of the Minecraft event.

All MCC 30 Scores

There are eight games played in every MCC chosen out of the available pool of games. All eight games are played by the 10 participating teams before the top two are moved into a final Dodgebolt duel.

Grid Runners Scores

The first game in MCC 30 was Grid Runners, which is all about teamwork and strategy. Each unique team is placed in an obstacle course that is identical to every other team, and they must work together to navigate through the rooms as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Throughout the obstacle course, players will face a series of unique rooms containing various challenges. Their challenges include solving puzzles, vanquishing mobs, crafting items, shooting targets, or other tasks designed to test various Minecraft skills.

First Place Overall: Purple Pandas

Parkour Warrior Scores

Parkour Warrior made its grand return to the MCC tournament in MCC 26 after being retired following MCC 11. Since then, it has only been available in the pool a few times and thus still feels like a fairly fresh addition to the event.

As the name hints, Parkour Warrior is all about testing parkour skills. Players will navigate through one massive course and must choose between paths of varying difficulty. The more difficult a path is, the more coins players will score.

Parkour Warrior Winner: Cyan Coyotes

First Place Overall: Yellow Yaks

Sands of Time Scores

MCC’s most unpredictable and dangerous game took place third. Sands of Time is a high-risk, high-reward game where players are placed in a complex and puzzling dungeon. This dungeon has many unique puzzles, hostile mobs, risky parkour courses, and lots of sand for players to collect.

All teams are placed in their own dungeon, separate from the nine other competing teams, but all of their maps are the same. Each team must successfully keep the sand timer in the middle full of sand, complete puzzles, traverse parkour courses, eliminate mobs, and unlock vaults to score big in this game. If the sand timer runs out of sand while the players are still inside, they will immediately lose it all and score no points.

Sands of Time Winner: Green Geckos

First Place Overall: Yellow Yaks

Ace Race Scores

The fourth game in MCC 30 was Ace Race which is all about parkour, movement, and quick thinking. Players must traverse through the map as quickly as possible but also have to think carefully about every move they make since one wrong move will set them back several places.

Starting with MCC 30, Ace Race will feature different paths on the maps players are familiar with. The paths will change each time and may sometimes revert to a pathing that players have previously experienced. Before this change, many MCC players memorized the pathing they should take for each of the Ace Race maps, but this change makes it so that Ace Race is more based on skill rather than memory.

Meltdown Scores

As with every MCC event, the audience controlled the vote for MCC’s fifth game. The vote takes place on Twitter and is chosen based on whichever receives the least votes.

The four games up for a vote in MCC 30 were Meltdown, Hole in the Wall, Parkour Tag, and Sky Battle. Meltdown received the fewest votes and thus took place fifth.

Meltdown is primarily focused on PvP, teamwork, and strategy. It takes place over three rounds on a map that is consistently melting down so that all teams must head toward the middle. Coins can be gained through mining around the map and through killing enemies, but Meltdown only allows players to kill with bows and arrows. Players must freeze their foes and wait for them to meltdown before they are vanquished.

Meltdown Winner: Red Rabbits

First Place Overall: Yellow Yaks

Battle Box Scores

The sixth game in MCC 30 was Battle Box which occurred on a new map. Battle Box is focused on PvP as each of the teams is placed in a head-to-head battle against each of the other competing teams.

In Battle Box, players must try to eliminate all of the opposing team while also ensuring that they are the first ones to fill in the middle with their color. It’s a delicate balancing act, and players can drastically affect how each round plays out depending on which kit they choose in the beginning and what they gather from around the map.

Sky Battle Scores

The fast-paced, Battle Royale game Sky Battle took place seventh. Sky Battle occurs over three rounds with an ever-shrinking border that pushes players to move inward.

Players can earn coins for outlasting other players and for eliminating their opponents. There is loot scattered around the map for competitors to gather, which is either already made and can be utilized immediately or used at a crafting table to create better loot.

Hole in the Wall Scores

The last game before the final duel between the top two performing teams was Hole in the Wall. Hole in the Wall places all players within a small arena suspended over water. The players then need to survive for as long as possible while puzzle walls continuously come at them.

For MCC 30, Hole in the Wall featured a special remix where players had to balance focusing on traversing through the walls with also constantly consuming food due to a draining hunger bar. This version of Hole in the Wall first appeared in MCC Scuffed and returned for MCC 30.

As the game progresses, the walls come at players faster and also become increasingly more complex. Players gain coins based on how long they manage to survive.

First Place Overall: Yellow Yaks

Coin results

The coins earned across the course of an MCC event don’t determine who ultimately wins, but they do decide which two teams move on to the Dodgebolt duel. Based on the coin totals, the Yellow Yaks and the Purple Pandas moved into the finale.

Dodgebolt results

After the eight mini-games concluded, the showdown between the Yellow Yaks and the Purple Pandas then commenced. This final battle placed them both in an arena over lava, where they then fought utilizing only bows and arrows to try and eliminate the other team three times.

Both teams fought hard for victory, but the Purple Pandas ended up winning MCC 30 with a Dodgebolt score of 3-2.
