The two latest Marvel Rivals heroes introduced at Gamescom today have a long history together, and it’s a story even the most basic fans will know a little bit about.

NetEase showcased more of the new heroes in a livestream at Gamescom today, showing off some gameplay for both of the heroes that will be available when the game launches later this year. And they’ll be free, just like all other characters in the game.

Captain America is a Vanguard (tank) while Bucky Barnes is a Duelist (damage dealer), and they are not friends in Marvel Rivals. This version of the Winter Soldier is still under some sort of Hydra brainwashing, as was teased in the Gamescom trailer.

The American icon himself, Steve Rogers leads the charge with his Vibranium shield, getting in close to swing it and his fist to deal damage. He’s also quite mobile, with his L-Shift used to sprint and slam the shield down on enemies.

Captain America can also throw his shield to deal damage to enemies within its path, bouncing off of multiple foes before returning. Another ability is a shield-led dash that deals damage. He’s also able to block with the shield, deflecting damage and sending it back at enemies.

Winter Soldier, meanwhile, uses a blaster as his primary fire, but his mechanical arm is highly capable of destruction, too. He can use it to dash forward and grab an enemy to launch them in the air, throw an electric-charged projectile, or use it as a hook to pull enemies close to him to deal massive damage.

The developers noted that the two heroes do not have a team-up ability together since they’re enemies in this version of the Marvel world, with more details on lore to come at a later date. Cap can team up with Thor and Storm to charge up his shield, while Bucky can get extra ammo from Rocket Raccoon, like Punisher.

The full ability exhibition for both heroes can be found on the Marvel Rivals’ Twitch page in a VOD. Marvel Rivals is set to launch on Dec. 6.
