Every game played on Marvel Snap rewards players with boosters to increase the rarity of the cards in their collection, with a new upgrade option becoming available when a card reaches the maximum level.
The maximum level is called Infinite and, once the option is clicked, splits into a new card with a different effect and the cycle of card upgrades begins again, providing a variety of ways for further customization for players.
But what exactly is an Infinity Split and how do they work in Marvel Snap?
What is an Infinity Split in Marvel Snap?
Infinity Splits are a way for players to constantly increase their collection level while generating unique visual effects of different rarities for players to collect on their favorite cards.
Each time a card reaches the Infinite rarity, a new form of that card can be spawned: an Infinity Split. While the original card can continue to be used at its maximum rarity, a new version will be added to the collection with aesthetic differents.
This new version will start off at common rarity and can be upgraded all the way to Infinite rarity, where the cycle can begin again with a new Infinity Split.

By using this approach, Marvel Snap players can increase their collection level even if they use the same 12 cards, allowing them to unlock more cards in their collection, while also providing their favorite cards with increasingly interesting and exclusive effects.
Some of these effects are rarer than others and will need to be split multiple times to even have a chance of getting the best effects, luring players back for more until they get the perfect card.
All Marvel Snap Infinity effects
In Marvel Snap, Infinity Splits can currently change two types of visual effects for each card; background and particle. There are four background effects and four particle effects.
Background effects
Foil: A background of silvery rainbow color. This sometimes results in artwork behind the character being barely visible or not visible.
Prism: Prism Foil removes the card’s background art and replaces it with a rainbow-textured pattern with hexagonal elements. This finish previously had the hexagons much more prominent but has been updated.
Gold: A solid gold background that highlights the character. This is currently the rarest background split, only becoming available from Infinity Split five onwards with a 10 percent chance.
Ink: Another rare background available from Infinity Split four onwards at a 10 percent drop rate, the Ink, or Black and White, background removes all color to provide a monotone look and is a favorite among players.
Particle effects
Glimmer: Provides a small sparkle in various shades of color.
Tone: A common particle effect, Tone provides purple dots that spin around the card very fast. They also have a comic-style dotting in the background.
Stardust: Stardust is a much bigger effect than glimmer, with various shades of pink, purple, gold, blue and red bursting off the card.
Krackle Flare/Kirby Crackle: The rarest particle effect currently in the game, the Kirby Crackle is named after the method of showing a crackle of energy in superhero comics in the 1960s, popularized by Marvel great Jack Kirby. An energy field bursts off the card and is available in several different colors.
All Marvel Snap Infinity Split effect rates
The first Infinity Split will provide either a foil or prism background at a 50/50 chance, with no particle effect. The glimmer and tone effects become available on Infinity Splits two and three.
After a fourth Infinity Split, the Ink background becomes available at a 10 percent drop rate, while the sparkle particle effect is also added and shares a 33 percent drop rate with the glimmer and tone effects.
On the fifth Infinity Split, the Gold background is available at a 10 percent drop rate, with the odds of receiving a foil or prism background reducing by five percent.

From Infinity Split six and above, the Kirby particle effect becomes available with a drop rate of just 10 percent. The three other effects share a 30 percent drop rate.
When splitting the same card multiple times, the same combination of effects will never appear again. Some of the effects have variations in their colors, however, which greatly increases the number of possibilities before one of the rarer effects appears.
A November update added seven different colors for particle effects, all combined within the same drop rate, which will make getting the exact combination of effects you desire much rarer.
Will Marvel Snap add more effects?
With so many variations of Infinity Splits, Marvel Snap has plenty of options to keep players grinding for the perfect combination for their favorite cards, which is increased further by the regular addition of new variants.
There is, however, certainly scope for further effects to be added in future updates, particularly as collecting is such a popular aspect of the game.
