Here are the LoL Patch 13.8 patch notes

The 2023 Mid-Season Invitational update is here, with League of Legends Patch 13.8 set to ship a pile of buffs for a handful of pro play darlings, including Nidalee, Lillia, Poppy, and Ezreal.

While the Riot Games developers don’t want to go overboard, they’re looking to wrangle a few more junglers into season 13’s meta before MSI 2023 begins on May 2. That includes Nidalee, Lillia, Poppy, and Kha’Zix, all of whom lead the buffs list unveiled by balance boss Riot Phroxzon ahead of Patch 13.8’s release.

There are a few characters getting sent the other way ahead of MSI too, including Rakan, Jarvan IV, reworked Aurelion Sol, and rock-solid top laner Malphite.

League collectors won’t be left wanting in the pro-play-focused patch either, with new Inkshadow skins set to go live across the April update cycle. The lucky champions getting these new cosmetics range from brothers Yasuo and Yone to Aurelion Sol and Udyr.

Here’s everything you need to know about League Patch 13.8.

League Patch 13.8 release date

The next update of 2023 will roll out on Wednesday, April 19, according to Riot’s patch schedule. As per usual, the patch will roll out worldwide across the day, starting in Australia at around 10am (AEST). Here are the key patch rollout times for some of the major League servers:

  • 3am PT (NA)
  • 5am GMT (EU West)
  • 3am CET (EU North East)
  • 8am KR (Korea)

There will be several hours of downtime once the patch begins. Matchmaking and competitive queues will be disabled across all League servers three hours before the update is officially deployed and set live.

What’s coming in League Patch 13.8?

Riot favors buffs for pre-MSI changes

There’s a lopsided set of buffs in this latest League patch as the Riot balance team prioritizes bringing more champions into the meta instead of dragging too many out before MSI 2023 matches begin.

When the next April update lands, nearly a dozen League champions will be getting ability, stat, or mechanic boosts, including Nidalee, Lillia, Kha’zix, and Poppy. Leona, Ezreal, Janna, Garen, Zoe, and Kog’Maw are also getting buffed. In comparison, just four champions⁠—Rakan, Jarvan IV, Malphite, and Aurelion Sol⁠—are being nerfed.

On top of that, just one item⁠—Cosmic Drive⁠—is being changed.

The battle of dawn and night continues

The popular Dawnbringer versus Nightbringer thematic has returned for yet another year, this time in a relatively smaller form with only four champions getting skins. This time around, Renekton and Vayne are joining the side of the light, while Jarvan IV and Nasus have succumbed to the darkness—highlighting the lore between these champions.

These are all Epic-tier skins, and are expected to remain in the shop permanently after they are officially released for purchase on April 20 at 3pm CT.

League Patch 13.8 notes

Champions

Aurelion Sol

  • Health growth reduced from 95 to 90.
  • Attack range growth reduced from 4.3 to four.

Ezreal

  • Base attack damage increased from 60 to 62.

Garen

  • Base attack damage increased from 66 to 69.
  • Base armor increased from 36 to 38.

Janna

  • W damage increased from 70-190 to 80-200.
  • E decay delay increased from 1.25 to 2.5 seconds.

Jarvan IV

  • Attack damage growth reduced from 3.4 to three.
  • Q damage reduced from 90-250 to 80-240.

Kayn

  • Shadow Assassin bonus move speed reduced from 80 percent to 70 percent.
  • Shadow Assassin cooldown increased from eight seconds to 10 seconds.

Kha’Zix

  • Q base damage increased from 60-160 to 70-170.

Kog’Maw

  • Kog’Maw is now Ghosted while in his passive form.
  • Passive damage increased from 125-550 to 140-650.
  • Q cooldown reduced from eight to seven seconds.
  • E mana cost reduced from 60-100 to 40-100, slow changed from 20-52 percent to 30-50 percent.

Leona

  • W bonus armor and magic resist increased from 45-185 to 55-195.
  • Magic damage increased from 45-185 to 55-195.

Lillia

  • Monster damage cap increased from 50-150 to 50-170.
  • Monster healing increased from 24-75 (plus 5.4 percent ability power) to 39-54 (plus 15 percent ability power).
  • Champion healing increased from 6-120 (plus 18 percent ability power) to 6-90 (plus 30 percent ability power).

Malphite

  • W’s first auto-attack base damage reduced from 30-90 to 30-70.
  • W cleave armor ratio reduced from 20 to 15 percent.

Nidalee

  • Base armor increased from 28 to 32.
  • Armor growth increased from 4.7 to five.

Poppy

  • Q target health damage increased from eight to nine percent.
  • W bonus resistances increased from 10 to 12 percent (24 percent under 40 percent health).

Rakan

  • Base armor reduced from 32 to 30.
  • Armor growth reduced from 5.1 to 4.9.

Items

  • Cosmic Drive
    • Ability power increased from 90 to 100.
    • Unique passive – Spelldance: “Damaging a champion (excluding damage over time) generates a stack of 2.5 percent movement speed every 1.5 seconds for the next five seconds up to four stacks (10 percent movement speed). At four stacks, gain an additional 10 percent movement speed (20 percent movement speed total). Dealing damage refreshes this effect. (Note: You only need to deal one instance of damage for it to start adding stacks on its own periodically. You then only need to hit them once again after a delay to fully stack it. You don’t need to hit them four times 1.5 seconds apart. The intent here is that one spell does not fully stack the passive.)”

  • “Reporting is now available in Match History! You can report another player by right clicking on their row when viewing past game summaries in your Match History.”

Challenges

  • “This patch includes a visual update for the Challenges Page! Previously everything was sorted by individual challenges which could be a bit confusing, but now Challenges will be organized by Capstone and Groups which should make them easier to navigate.”

Bug fixes and quality-of-life changes

  • Fixed a bug where Milio would sometimes cause games to crash if he was matched against an Ahri, Viego, or Sylas.
  • Fixed a bug where Diana’s Q distance would be slightly shorter or longer if it was cast during Flash.
  • Fixed bugs where using undo in the shop when Biscuit is owned reduced or increased your total mana by an amount more than what was granted by the item.
  • Fixed a bug where Twitch’s R AoE would not inflict damage on himself and enemies while under the influence of Renata’s Berserk.
  • Fixed a bug where the end-of-game scoreboard would show neutral minion kills in both jungles but would not be calculated as income.
  • Fixed a bug where Vel’Koz’s R could be recast to interrupt the ability if it was recast too early.
  • Fixed a bug where a minion would receive Drake kill credit if Drake was killed by Shaco’s clone.
  • Fixed a bug where Yuumi’s ally would get no friendship stacks when killing champions if Yuumi was attached.
  • Fixed a bug where Yuumi’s Q expiration sound effects were audible in the Fog of War.
  • Fixed a bug where getting snared would not stop recalls.
  • Fixed a rare bug where Sona’s passive would be duplicated if specific inputs were made at the same time.
  • Fixed a bug where Aurelion Sol’s enhanced R shockwave would not deal damage.
  • Fixed a bug where Draven’s R could execute through spell shields like Sivir’s E. And I thought bounty hunters were good at avoiding axes… or were those pendulum axes only?
  • Fixed a bug where Draven’s R would not execute enemies if they were near Draven when he initially cast the ability.
  • Fixed a bug where Ornn’s E and R knockups were cleansable.
  • Fixed a bug where some of Aurelion Sol’s glorious VO lines were missing.
  • Fixed a bug where Xayah’s Q would no longer recalculate cast time if she sold an item while dead and the ability’s attack speed would be increased.
  • Fixed a bug where Kai’Sa could sometimes use her R to escape Mordekaiser’s Realm of Death.
  • Fixed a bug where Gargoyle’s Stoneplate’s Unbreakable effect would be shortened by heal and shield power.
  • Fixed an exploit where Watchful Wardstone could be copied and repeatedly sold.

Skin bug fixes

  • Lunar Beast / Worlds 2021 Jarvan IV – Jarvan’s hand now properly holds the spear during Dragon Strike (Q) animation
  • Worlds 2021 Jarvan IV: Left pauldron no longer rotates in unnatural way, after using Dragon Strike (Q) ability
  • Fnatic Jarvan IV – Animation of flag raising and falling down has been restored during cast of Demacian Standard (E)
