You might want to change League regions for many reasons, whether that be lag issues on your servers, wanting to experience region-specific playstyles, or maybe you just goofed and selected the incorrect region. Whatever your reason, there is a way to change the region and enjoy another location’s best (and worst) League gameplay.

How to change region on League client without VPN

Players can buy a one-time region change for 2,600 RP. To do that, they need to visit League’s store and select the region they want to transfer to. This option is limited to being only once per account, so be wary before switching.

Here are the steps to changing your account region:

  1. Open your League client.
  2. Click on the Store icon next to your RP and Blue Essence amounts.
  3. Click on the Account icon in the top right portion of the Store (I posted a screengrab below to show you).
  4. Select the region you’d like to change to. This transaction will cost you 2,600 RP, which is equivalent to about $23 in real life.
  5. Progress with the transaction after receiving some warnings from Riot about the problems you may face when changing regions.
  6. Log out and log back in to make sure everything worked as intended.

As an FYI: your rank, Honor level, Clash progress, and more will be wiped out when you change regions. You will get to keep your skins, though!

How to change region on League client with VPN

If you want to play on a different region’s League servers, you may need to create a new account in that specific region. To do that, you will need to employ a virtual private network, commonly known as a VPN.

VPNs, while very useful, cost money, which may turn off quite a few of you. For example, a one-month subscription to ExpressVPN, one of the more popular services, costs $12.95. While longer subscriptions are more affordable monthly, it will cost you quite a bit of cash upfront ($60 for six months or $100 for a year).

If you’re still interested, however:

  1. Look around for the VPN best fits you and purchase it
  2. Install it on your PC
  3. Choose a location on the VPN that lies within the League region you’d like to play, and create a profile.

I should note, however, that some regions, like China and South Korea, require players to use real-life identification to even register. So unless you have a valid ID for those locations, you will not be able to access the region’s League of Legends servers.

How do I know my Riot region?

There are many different League of Legends regions and it’s important to know which one you are residing in. Checking your region is quite simple.

  1. Head to the League of Legends Client and log in.
  2. Hover over your profile picture (without clicking).
  3. A new window will pop up, revealing your League of Legends region right above your user name.

How do I make a Riot account in a different League region?

If you want to make an account to play with friends residing in a different region than your own account, then here’s how to do it.

  1. Head to the League website.
  2. Click on the blue ‘PLAY FOR FREE‘ button in the middle of the screen.
  3. On the next screen, in the top-right corner, click on the Region dropdown list.
  4. Select the region you wish to play in.
  5. After selecting the desired region, the page will reroute you to that region’s specific website where you will make an account in the dedication region.

Once you’ve done this, you should have a new League account on the server region you desired.
