League of Legends’ next upcoming champion, Bel’Veth, has been revealed. The Empress of the Void will join the cast at some point in the coming weeks and is expected to be played in the jungle position. Bel’Veth’s goal, according to her official biography, is to see the Void devour all of Runeterra, conquering the world and leaving nothing in its wake.

Bel’Veth will be the first Void champion added to the League roster since Kai’Sa was released in 2018. Bel’Veth is the leader of the Void and, according to her biography, is “a terrifying empress born from the combined memories, experiences, and emotions of an entire devoured port city and its outlying ocean.”

In a leaked gameplay video, Bel’Veth appears to take the shape of a corrupted manta ray, using her giant fins as a cloak to conceal her true form. When using her ultimate ability, Bel’Veth gains golden accents on her body, clearly signifying her royal status within the Void.

Bel’Veth’s kit has not been revealed yet, but Riot has hinted that she’s going to be played primarily in the jungle position. In the Champion Roadmap published by Riot earlier this year, the champion design team confirmed that Bel’Veth will be a jungler who shines in skirmishing situations. While no specific details were showcased regarding Bel’Veth’s potential abilities, Riot did hint at the potential for Bel’Veth to “feed on your essence, so you may become part of the new evolution of Runeterra.”

The latest Champion Roadmap also notes that she can bend anyone to her will by completely enchanting them, making it seem that no other power in the Void compares to her. There’s even an image associated with the roadmap that pictures a man about to be pierced by a purple stinger.

Bel’Veth is the self-proclaimed Empress of the Void and the God of Oblivion. Bel’Veth is “like a dark cancer that has metastasized within the heart of the Void, through which all of Runeterra will be consumed and rebuilt in her own twisted image,” according to her official biography.

Bel’Veth appears to have several connections to pre-existing champions from the Void region. In her teaser trailers, she speaks directly to Vel’Koz and Malzahar, while in a recently released short story, her interactions with Kai’Sa come to light as well. In the short story, titled Pinwheel, Kai’Sa discovers the fallen city of Belveth, which the empress Bel’Veth has completely consumed and claimed as herself. The empress confronts Kai’Sa, warning her of the Void’s impending consumption of the world, while additionally offering her an ultimatum to assist her in the destruction of the Watchers. After all, Bel’Veth is a descendant of the Watchers, and it is her goal to “destroy both Runeterra and the domain of her progenitors,” according to her biography.

Bel’Veth’s kit and release date are expected to be revealed at some point in the coming weeks, if Riot’s recent champion release timelines can serve as any precedent.
