Ever since he entered the league in 2016, Rasmus “Caps” Winther has torn up the scene with his incredible mechanical skill and decision making. His penchant for flashy plays kept the spotlight on him wherever he went—and that spotlight is firmly on his head now as he takes home the LEC Most Valuable Player award for the 2019 Spring Split.
It was another amazing season for Caps as he embarked on a journey with his new team, G2 Esports. The move to leave Fnatic stunned plenty of people but also left them in fear as a new European superteam was now looming. Their fear was warranted—G2 Esports destroyed their competition this year, ending the season in first place with ease.
At the heart of this G2 Esports war machine was the superstar mid laner, who came out to prove that he’s one of the best players in the world. This season, he led the LEC in kills and had some of the highest stats among all the LEC mid laners. Caps’ play was essential for G2’s success, and it’s safe to say that without him, the team might have lost a number of games.
This also marks Caps’ second MVP award in his career as he earned the honor last year with Fnatic as well. That year was historic, but the Danish powerhouse aims to continue his streak of LEC championships. He won both titles last year, and he looks poised to take the Spring Split this season, too.
Looking ahead, he’ll either have to face Fnatic or Origen in the finals. Facing off against Fnatic would be quite poetic—being able to brush off the ghosts of the past in order to create a new path for himself and his new team.
