God of War Ragnarök is an action-adventure game set in a fictional alternate world of Nordic mythology. The iconic protagonist Kratos makes his return to this game after the stellar success of its prequel God of War back in 2018. This time the world is left in a much more tumultuous state than we last left it during God of War because the events of the long-prophesized Ragnarök are finally upon us. It’s up to Kratos and his son Atreus to survive this cataclysmic event and restore balance to the world again.
In God of War Ragnarök, as you explore the nine realms of Norse mythology, you will notice several items that serve no real purpose in the game. These collectible items are part of a set of items and when you complete the set, you can sell them for a profit. While most of these collectibles serve no use other than providing direct profit, others actually give you a permanent stat boost if you collect enough of them. There are two such collectibles in the game.
- Idunn Apple: Provides a permanent health increase with each three collected.
- Horn of Blood Mead: Provides a permanent rage increase with each three collected.
Each of these collectibles is found in Nornir Chests. Most of these chests are scattered across all the realms, but the ones that contain Horns of Blood Mead are found in only four of the nine realms. This means you won’t have to explore all nine of the realms in hopes of finding these collectibles. To make it easier, we have procured a list of locations where you can find each Horn of Blood Mead in God of War Ragnarök.
All Horns of Blood Mead locations
As mentioned earlier, the Horns of Blood Mead are found scattered across four of the nine Norse realms. There are a total of 15 Horns of Blood Mead that you can find in these locations. The realms where you can find these Horns are as follows.
- Alfheim: The land of Elves, currently populated by the Light Elves and Dark Elves.
- Midgard: The land of the Norse people, the first realm that Kratos arrives in.
- Svartalfheim: The land of Dwarves, this place is the homeland of Brök, Sindri, and Lunda.
- Vanaheim: The homeland of the Vanir gods, Freya came from this place.
Each realm presents its own challenges in terms of enemies and varying difficulty in the traversal of these realms. Getting through these regions and finding Nornir Chests with Horns of Blood Mead can be tricky in some cases. As such, we have broken down the location of every Nornir Chest in these four realms that hold Horns of Blood Mead.
Alfheim Horns of Blood Mead locations
The land of the Elves holds a total of three Horns of Blood Mead.
- First location: The first Horn of Blood Mead can be found during the “Groa’s Secret” quest. After creating the light bridge during this quest, you should see the Nornir Chest ahead. To unlock it, hit the first rune behind the chest. Then hit the second rune down the hallway to the right of the chest. And finally, hit the third rune to the left of the chest around the corner to unlock it.
- Second location: Also found during “Groa’s Secret,” this chest can be found after going down the zipline to a lower area. Hit the first rune opposite the chest. Then hit the second rune after going through the wooden door, to the left. The final rune can be accessed by cutting through vines, climbing up, and dropping down around the chest. Hit it to unlock the chest.
- Third location: This Nornir Chest is found to the southwest of the Forbidden Sands. Head under a pillar with a heart on it to access the chest itself. To unlock it, hit the first brazier to the right of the chest, then the second brazier to the left of the chest around the pillar on a tall rock. Finally, hit the third brazier on the side of the stone arch closer to the top.
Midgard Horns of Blood Mead locations
The human realm houses two Horns of Blood Mead.
- First location: The first Nornir Chest can be found during the “Word of Fate” quest to the left side of the Raider Hideout. Unlocking this chest will have you hit the first brazier directly to the left of the chest itself. Following this, the second brazier is located in the lower part of the room. To find it, blow up the gold with a nearby fireball. The final brazier is located opposite the stairs.
- Second location: The final Horn-holding Nornir Chest in this region is also found during the “Word of Fate” quest, just outside the nearby treasury to the right. To unlock this one, gain access through the door on the right by breaking the chain to find the first brazier. The remaining braziers are on the upper level, one to the left, and one to the right. They are easy to spot.
Svartalfheim Horns of Blood Mead locations
The Dwarven homeland hides a staggering five Horns of Blood Mead.
- First location: During “The Quest for Tyr,” enter the tunnel to the left after lowering the barrier. Over here, you should find the first Nornir Chest. To open it, hit the spinner to the right of the chest. The second spinner is to the left of the chest guarded by enemies. To get to the final spinner, keep going forward from the second one and climb up to a higher level to find it.
- Second location: Also found during “The Quest for Tyr,” this Nornir Chest is located to the right when you first get off the boat. This is a rune puzzle once more, with the first rune found just behind the chest itself. The second rune is located directly opposite the Nornir Chest. The final rune is on a spinner further down the beach ahead and to the left. Hit it to unlock the chest.
- Third location: This is the final chest that can be found during “The Quest for Tyr.” Go over the cargo container to find it. This one requires lighting three braziers, the first of which is found directly to the left of the Nornir Chest. The second brazier requires you to stop the flowing water to light it. The final brazier can be found by dropping down near the closest grapple point.
- Fourth location: After completing “Forging Destiny,” head back to the Forge to find the Nornir Chest near a rock with a green heart on it. To unlock it, hit the first rune on a rock opposite the chest. Hit the second rune on a rock opposite the wooden posts. The final rune can be found by going back from the chest and taking a left turn. The rune will be present near clustered rocks.
- Fifth location: The final Horn in this region is also found after “Forging Destiny.” Use the lift, then climb up a spear point ahead to reach the Nornir Chest. Runes have to be hit once again and they are easy to find this time around. The first two runes are located directly to the left of the chest itself while the final one lies above two ledges to the right that you will have to climb.
Vanaheim Horns of Blood Mead locations
The final five Horns of Blood Mead haunt the hallowed lands of Vanir gods.
- First location: The first Horn in Vanaheim can be found during “The Reckoning.” Cross the broken bridge ahead and use the nearby crane to open the Nornir Chest. The first rune is opposite the chest itself. The second rune is below your starting position, turn the crane and pull the bucket towards you with your Blades to ignite the rune. The final rune is across your starting position to the left, pull the bucket in that direction again to ignite it.
- Second location: This Nornir Chest is found opposite Brok’s workshop, under an arch, and over a gap in the Cliffside Ruins. Spinners are involved in this puzzle, the first of which can be found to the right of the chest around the wall. The second spinner is within reach of Brok’s workshop. The final spinner can be seen near the chain below after climbing the wall to the left.
- Third location: While on the “Creatures of Prophecy” quest, take the left path on the fork in the road and climb up to reach the Nornir Chest. Hit the first spinner to the left of the chest itself. Follow the path ahead to find the second spinner. Then head back down to find the final spinner covered in vines that you need to destroy.
- Fourth location: This chest can be accessed after defeating Vali the Oath Guard. The chest is located a few levels below the boss, after clearing through some enemies. This is a rune puzzle, the first of which is located to the left of the chest on top of a rock. The second rune is in a hollow tree on the right. The final rune is located behind another large tree to the right of the chest.
- Fifth location: The final Horn of Blood Mead is found to the west of Crater Entrance. Zipline down and you will find the Nornir Chest in a cave to the left. This puzzle involves braziers, so find the first one on a rock to the left of the chest. Go back out of the cave to find the second brazier across the pond. Then use the grapple point nearby to find the final brazier up the cliff.
