The expansive world of Teyvat is always growing in size. With an ever-expanding plethora of content, Genshin Impact continues to thrive and has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
While Genshin Impact’s updates are fairly regular, consistent, and come loaded with content, players are still always looking to the future for what comes next. All of Genshin’s updates center around the regions of Teyvat, so this is what players can look to when trying to uncover the future of Genshin Impact.

Every region in Genshin Impact
Four of the regions within Teyvat have been released with the latest one being the Dendro region of Sumeru. But there will eventually be a total of seven regions tied to each specific element.
- There is the Anemo region of Mondstadt.
- There is the Geo region of Liyue.
- There is the Electro region of Inazuma.
- There is the Dendro region of Sumeru.
- There is the Hydro region of Fontaine.
- There is the Pyro region of Natlan.
- There is the Cryo region of Snezhnaya.
Outside of the seven regions of Teyvat, there is also another unique region called Khaenri’ah. This region never had a god like the others did and instead was built entirely by humans. It underwent massive destruction and is now home to many formidable monsters but is also still inhabited by humans.
While most of the future of Genshin Impact is a bit unclear outside of the region updates known to be arriving at some point, those looking for a roadmap of what is to come can still get a general idea of what’s to come based on everything that miHoYo has shared thus far.
Genshin Impact Version 3.3
All information for the Version 3.3 update of Genshin has been officially confirmed by miHoYo. After years of waiting and continuously growing anticipation within the community, Scaramouche will debut in Version 3.3 as a playable character named Wanderer.
He will be a five-star Anemo Catalyst character with quite an impressive skillset. Anemo will once again grant a character unique abilities as Wanderer is able to hover and fight from a stance that is entirely specific to him.
A four-star Anemo Bow character named Faruzan will also debut in Version 3.3. She is an Anemo support character perfect to pair with Wanderer and the first four-star character of this type to join Teyvat as a playable character.
The five-star Geo Claymore character Arataki Itto will receive a rerun of his banner alongside Wanderer’s debut banner when Version 3.3 is released. Both characters will have Faruzan as a featured four-star on their banners and will run for about three weeks before they are then replaced by the second half of Version 3.3’s banners.
The second half of Version 3.3 will feature two character reruns. The Electro Archon Raiden Shogun, who is a five-star Polearm character, will receive a rerun as will the five-star Hydro Sword character Kamisato Ayato.
Outside of some new playable characters and reruns of old ones, the Version 3.3 update will also introduce some other new content.
- Players will be introduced to a massive new gameplay mode called Genius Invokation TCG. This new gameplay mode will be a permanent addition to Teyvat and will combine the gameplay mechanics that players are already familiar with alongside a new epic card gameplay style.
- Two new weapons will be released in Version 3.3. One is Tulaytullah’s Remembrance, a five-star catalyst built for Wanderer, and the other is Toukabou Shigure, which is a four-star sword obtainable through a special event called “Akitsu Kimodameshi.”
- Two new artifact sets, which are Desert Pavilion Chronicle and Flower of Paradise Lost, will be released.
- A few special events will take place across the duration of Version 3.3.
- The main Version 3.3 event is called “Akitsu Kimodameshi” and seems to ask players to return to Inazuma for some sort of courage challenges with Arataki Itto and Shikanoin Heizou at the center of the event.
- Other smaller events include a rerun of “Windtrace,” an event called “Across the Wilderness,” another installment of “Ley Line Overflow,” and “Misty Dungeon: Realm of Sand.”
The Version 3.3 update of Genshin Impact will be released to players on Dec. 6 or Dec. 7, 2022, depending on which timezone players are joining Teyvat from. This date was revealed during the Version 3.0 live stream.
Genshin Impact Version 3.4
What exactly will arrive in the Version 3.4 Genshin update is currently based entirely on speculation and leaks. However, the leak community is usually pretty accurate and everything that has been uncovered for Version 3.4 certainly makes sense.
The five-star Dendro character Alhaitham is expected to finally debut during this version update as is the four-star Dendro character Yaoyao. the five-star Pyro Polearm character Hu Tao will also likely receive a rerun during this update.
Genshin Impact Version 3.5
Little information has been uncovered for Version 3.5, but many within the Genshin leak community believe that the Pyro character Dehya, who is suspected to wield a claymore, will at least become playable during this update. A four-star Cryo Polearm character named Mika is also believed to arrive during Version 3.5, although almost nothing is known about him just yet beyond his first and only appearance in the game during the “Of Ballads and Brews” special event.
Other Genshin Impact leaks
Outside of the characters that have been uncovered for specific Version updates, a few other leaks have been found with no specific timeline. These are as follows.
- A Sumeru character that players are already familiar with named Kaveh is likely to become playable at some point in the future. He is speculated to be a Dendro Claymore character.
- The notorious Fatui Harbinger Il Dottore becoming playable may happen in the future as many within the leak community have found evidence for this to happen. Considering that two other Fatui Harbingers turned out to be somewhat good, which are Tartaglia (Childe) and Wanderer (Scaramouche), this seems likely although it will likely be quite aways into the future as Il Dottore is quite the villain and players barely know him.
- A character named Soutine that wields a Claymore and is a Hydro character has been uncovered by the leak community. Some leaks indicate that she may appear in Version 3.8, but it is also rather unclear if this many waves of 3.0 updates will actually occur. Soutine is speculated to be from the Hydro region of Fontaine and may thus serve as a character that helps players transition to the Hydro region after Sumeru.
- Klee’s mother Alice, who is a famous figure players have learned about many times but have yet to meet, is suspected to become a playable character sometime in the future. Her element and weapon are entirely unknown.
- A group of names for possible upcoming characters with no further information beyond their names includes a female named Nafs, a male named Djajeet, and a female named Ikhfa.
What comes after Version 3.0 of Genshin Impact?
During a Game Developers Conference (GDC), the producer and CEO of miHoYo shared a roadmap for Genshin Impact’s future. The conference occurred before the release of Sumeru but details that all updates are centered around the seven regions corresponding with each Genshin element.
The same order that the regions are listed in above was also previously showcased in the “Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview: Travail” video that miHoYo shared when Genshin first launched. Thus, the seven regions will be released in the following order.
- Mondstadt (Anemo) was released first.
- Liyue (Geo) was released second.
- Inazuma (Electro) was released third.
- Sumeru (Dendro) was released fourth.
- Fontaine (Hydro) will be released fifth.
- Natlan (Pyro) will be released sixth.
- Snezhnaya (Cryo) will be released seventh.
The Genshin CEO and producer also said that the massive regional updates will generally arrive on an annual basis. Thus, players can expect approximately one new region per year and it will probably be around another three years before all seven nations of Teyvat have been released to players.
Based on all of this information, a general roadmap for the future of Genshin Impact after Version 3.0 comes to an end is fairly clear.
Genshin Impact Version 4.0
The Hydro region of Fontaine will be released when Version 4.0 begins. No exact timeline for this update is clear as it is currently unknown how many waves of Version 3.0 will occur. But miHoYo’s general timeline indicates that it will likely be at least a year before this expansion will occur which means that players will likely set sail to the Hydro region of Fontaine in mid to late 2023.
Two Fontaine characters, who are named Lyney and Lynette, were teased in Genshin’s teaser video with the line “masquerade of the guilty” preceding their reveal. The Hydro region worships the Hydro Archon, whose other name is currently unknown beyond the title of “God of Justice.”
While little information about these characters has been uncovered, even by the Genshin leak community which usually finds information far in advance, some leaks have found that these two may be the first instance of a two-in-one character.
The following message from one member of the leak community was translated by many others who all stated that Lyney and Lynette would be one character rather than two. Considering how they were teased as one unit by miHoYo themselves, this would make sense.
A possible look at Fontaine may have been uncovered by the Genshin leak community as well with the following video that has been shared recently. Fontaine is very based around technology and this unique architectural style is fitting with what has been shared about the region thus far.
Genshin Impact Version 5.0
The fiery region of Natlan is expected to arrive in the Version 5.0 update. The teaser for this region has the line “incandescent ode of resurrection” before previewing a character named Iansan.
This region worships Murata, who is the Pyro Archon. She is also known as the “God of War” and “Lady of Fire.” Outside of this, not much else is currently known about the Pyro region of Teyvat.
Genshin Impact Version 6.0
Considering that the Fatui Harbingers and their boss Tsaritsa, who is the Cryo Archon, feel like the big bads of Teyvat, it makes sense that the sixth act and final regional expansion for the seven elements will take travelers to the icy region of Snezhnaya, which is the home of both the ruthless Cryo Archon and the Fatui.
The Cryo region was teased in an image featuring the Fatui Harbinger Pulcinella sitting on a throne surrounded by his followers following the act six reveal alongside the line “everwinter without mercy.” Although his face is obscured by shadows, players have since gotten a clear look at Pulcinella when miHoYo unveiled all 11 Fatui Harbingers in a storyline teaser video.
The other name that the Cryo Archon is known by has not yet been revealed, but her heartless and icy demeanor has certainly earned her quite the reputation. Tsaritsa uses her loyal Fatui agents to manipulate and strike fear into all of the other regions of Teyvat.
The icy Archon is also on an ongoing mission to steal all of her fellow Archons’ Gnoses. As might be expected of the master puppeteer, Tsaritsa herself is not the one actually performing this mission.
Tsaritsa has used her Harbingers to steal Gnoses and thus far has successfully obtained three Gnoses. Venti’s was forcefully taken by La Signora, Zhongli’s was peacefully given to La Signora through a contract, and Nahida’s was given to Il Dottore in exchange for information.
The Cryo Archon’s once loyal Harbinger Scaramouche also obtained another Gnosis, which belonged to the Raiden Shogun, but he then went rogue and ran off with it as was confirmed when he was wielding the Gnosis during the final part of the Sumeru Archon quest in which he commanded an immense mechanical beast. The Gnosis is currently in Nahida’s possession, who is also known as Lesser Lord Kusanali, but the Harbinger’s may yet return to claim it.
Further Genshin Impact updates
As for what Teyvat will look like beyond the Version 6.0 update, the future is quite unclear. Lots of potentially leaked characters and other information are always in circulation throughout the Genshin community, but these leaks are usually only for the imminent future updates.
MiHoYo did also tease the region of Khaenri’ah, which is separate from Teyvat, alongside Dainsleif, who hails from this region and whom players are quite familiar with now. But while every other teaser was accompanied by an act name and number, this one simply said the word “act” alongside another blurred-out word in place of where a number previously was for all other updates and also had the line “the dream yet to be dreamed.”
The semi-recent reveal about the Descenders in Genshin could also indicate that perhaps once all of Teyvat has been revealed players could then move on to other worlds beyond it. All aspects of Genshin’s lore are shrouded in mystery and intrigue with much yet to be answered.
Considering how story-driven Genshin Impact is, it will be quite interesting to see what occurs beyond the already unveiled upcoming updates.
