June’s monthly update for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is scheduled to go live this Thursday, and Bluehole Studio has announced that it will include changes to loot balance.
The randomness of loot spawning in the map of PUBG is one of the game’s biggest features, and this update is being described as a “first pass” of changing the frequency of certain item spawns, as well as the addition of two new guns.
“This is our first real pass at adjusting the loot balance in the game after the data science team started their analysis,” said Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene in a blog post. “We will most likely be making several more of these passes during the course of Early Access, so please don’t take this week’s upcoming change to the balance as final!”
Among these changes is the addition of the powerful Groza 7.62 bullpup rifle, which will only be available in care packages. The VSS sniper rifle, however, will no longer be found in care packages and will only be found on the map. Assault rifle and sniper rifle silencers, along with 4x scopes, will also be added to possible loot to be attained in care packages.
On the world spawn side of things, a fully automatic 9mm pistol, the P18C, has been added. For assault rifles, the SCAR-L’s spawn rate has been decreased “to better fit the weapon’s tier,” meaning that they will be more rare to find in the field now.
The spawn rate of the UMP submachine gun has been decreased, while the spawn rate of the Uzi submachine gun has been increased. On top of that, Greene said that the Level 1 Helmet was being spawned at a much higher rate than Level 1 Vests, and the spawn rate has been adjusted so that both items will spawn at a similar rate.
The full monthly update patch notes will be released tomorrow, and the update is scheduled to go live early on June 29.
