What a blast from the past.

One of the most loved features in a Grand Theft Auto game is its immersive open-world experience, so it’s only fair for the fandom to expect another realistic, crime-filled, no-bounds map from Rockstar Games in Grand Theft Auto 6.

Here’s what we know about the GTA 6 map at this stage. Check back, as this piece will be updated as new information is released.

Where will the GTA 6 map be set?

The GTA 6 game map is based on a familiar look, namely the 2002 titular Vice City—a coastal paradise with inspiration drawn from Miami, Florida. Leaks in 2022 suggested this would be the case and it was later confirmed with the game’s first trailer. As the city of Los Santos was a faithful depiction of Los Angeles, the GTA 6 map could mirror the sentiment with a large expansion from the original map, however, that is yet to be confirmed.

The original game was set in the 1980s and had the aesthetic to match, from the big hair to its synthwave OST, but, according as we can see in the trailer, GTA 6 will be set in the modern day, even including TikTok. Yes, it’s that modern.

We should get more footage of this new Vice City setting in the coming months as we prepare for GTA 6 to land in 2025.

How big is the GTA 6 map?

The GTA 6 map is rumored to be larger than that of GTA 5. Set in the fictional state of San Andreas, the GTA 5 map was huge, with plenty to explore, from the city to the mountains to the desert and plentiful beaches. A December 2020 GTA Online content update even saw the addition of an entire new island named Cayo Perico dedicated to a heist.

Initially reported by industry insider Tom Henderson, GTA 6‘s map will reportedly expand and embrace changes from time to time, similar to Fortnite’s seasons. These claims were also corroborated by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier and Video Games Chronicle in July 2021.

With a revamped Vice City set to be brought into the 21st century, GTA fans have a lot to be excited about within the next couple of years—but hopefully, it’ll be on Rockstar’s terms.

We’ve still got a long while to wait before GTA 6 lands as its currently scheduled to arrive in 2025, however, Rockstar has a long history of delaying projects, so lets just keep our fingers crossed it maintains this release window.

The wait is unarguably painful, but these GTA 6 rumors should keep you company until then.
