The first Gfinity Elite Series Australia will come to a close this weekend, with some of the best players in the country competing for a share of the $225,000 prize pool.
Three games will hit the stage over the weekend with the grand finals for Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Rocket League, and Street Fighter V streaming on GfinityAU’s Twitch channel. The Rocket League portion of the tournament is also being broadcast on free-to-air television channel ONE from 10am to 1pm AEST on Sunday.
Melbourne ORDER is one of the top teams that is looking to bring home a trophy. Order has sat at the top of the standings for most of the regular season and have had strong playoff performances.
“Melbourne is arguably the sporting capital of Australia, and Melbourne Order has delivered consistent high level teams across all three titles.” Dominic Remond, CEO of Gfinity Esports Australia, said. “Counter Strike: Global Offensive is likely to be hotly contested in their match up against Sydney Chiefs, the classic inter-city rivalry, followed by a Melbourne Derby final against Melbourne Avant in Rocket League on Sunday.”
With the months of action finally drawing to a close, viewership for the six weeks of play has been strong. According to Gfinity, more than 3,300 concurrent viewers tuning in on average to watch the CS:GO portion of the event. This is apparently 57 percent higher than Australia’s premier esports broadcast, the League of Legends Oceanic Pro League, and a strong showing for a regional competition.
In total, the Gfinity Elite Series Australia has attracted nearly 2.9 million channel views on Twitch, according to the company, with more than 12.5 million minutes watched by audiences across the globe.
